EasyTutu: slow menus AND mods install order
« on: July 26, 2011, 11:25:46 AM »
Hello everyone.

I've finally decided to play Baldur's Gate again, this time taking advantage of EasyTutu. I've performed a clean full install of both BG+TotSC and BGII+ToB, then applied the following:

- EasyTutu
- EasyTutu Degreenifier
- EasyTutu Hot Fixes (Beregost)

Everything went smooth on my Windows Vista environment, and it seems to be working as intended... EXCEPT that all menus in BGTutu, including in-game menus like the inventory screen or the dialog window, are slow and jerky upon being accessed. This did NOT happen on my BG+TotSC install, which ran perfectly smooth, nor had it ever happened before on my BGII+ToB installs (though I must admit I haven't checked on this specific one). Disabling Vista's nifty GUI did not help (i.e. it's apparently not a memory shortage problem). Any idea what it could be? It's really bothersome as it makes things judder every time a dialog starts, or a chest is opened :(

Besides, I would like to play the following mods, which I'll list in what I understand would the best installation order:

- TutuFix
- Spawn Randomizer
- BG1 Casting sounds
- BG1 Unfinished Business
- BG1 NPC Project
- Rogue Rebalancing
- BG2 Tweakpack
- One Pixel Production (video)
- One Pixel Production (music)
- BGTutu GUI
- Infinity Animations

Does this order look fine, or should I change something? If I wished to intall Fields of the Dead at a later date, would it change anything?

No idea regarding Vista (other than suggesting to get away from it  :P).

For Tutu install order, check this.

Fields of the Dead is currently not compatible with Tutu. Can't say nothing about how (if) it would change things until Echon releases it and comments about it.

What internal resolution setting are you using ? Cause if it's anything bigger than 1024x768, you need to be using the Widescreen mod, and that mod needs to be installed after the BGTutu GUI... like pointed in the Tutu thread linked above.

Or the cause could be the BG1 fonts you use. :P
And when you install the Infinity Animations, you should biff the override folder... use this to do that.

Hi Daulmakan and Jarno,

thanks for your reply. I know Vista isn't getting much love (and rightfully so) but oddly enough it has never given me the slightest hint of an issue, so I thought I'd save myself going through the process of installing a different OS ;)

I'm running the game at 1024x768, which is what I'd always been using for my every BG2+ToB game. The slow menus can't be due to the BG1 fonts either, as the issue appeared before I restored them.

It would probably change *something* if the installation does not fail completely, and it would leave you with a partial FotD experience which pretty much amounts to a screwed up game.

Try switching your resolution (game, not desktop) to 800x600, just to see if that impacts the problem at all.

When I said "at a later day" I was actually referring to your recent efforts to make FotD Tutu-compatible :)

Try switching your resolution (game, not desktop) to 800x600, just to see if that impacts the problem at all.

It did, albeit moderately so. On the other hand, disabling 3D acceleration made everything extremely smooth/fast. It's weird, since it had never happened to me before, but it seems 3D acceleration is now slowing down my regular BG2+ToB game as well. Seeing as disabling it solves the problem AND eliminates the need for the Degreenifier too, I think I'll just leave it off and call it a day :)

What Graphic card does your computer have ? If I may ask... and could you copy paste the baldur.ini's content... this is just out of interest in helping others... ;D

Hi Jarno,

my graphic card is an integrated Intel chipset, nothing to write home about. It had never had a problem handling Baldur's Gate 3D acceleration, though. I'll report back here with the model number asap (I have it on my other computer). I'll also cut&paste my baldur.ini, no problem :) In a nutshell, I'm running the game 1024x768x32, 3D Animations ON, 3D Acceleration OFF (everything else is pretty much maxed out).

I had originally kept 3D Animations ON, but disabled them later on in an attempt to get rid of a graphic glitch in Candlekeep's fountains. The glitch disappeared, but I can't seem to replicate it (I wanted to take a screenshot before and after but switching 3D Animations back to ON would not affect my savegame in Candlekeep).
