Um, most likely it's going to be difficult, even on Easy Difficulty. I'd try giving your character a few levels first via console, then continue as normal. This way you'll have some spells to throw at them. Maybe some invisibility stuff, too.

By the way, I know silent NPCs are boring, but there's an IWD2 NPCs mod, so you could play with IWD2 chars just like in BG2 - banters, romances and all. http://gibberlings3.net/iwd2npc

I can think of three approaches:
Liberal application of Sleep, Horror and Fireball.
A truckload of patience with reloads and potions.
Starting over as an Aasimar with a level as Paladin.

IWD2 seems a lot harder than BG2. I'm not sure if its the ruleset. 'coz I tried Icewind Gate--getting to BG2 from IWD2 and I couldn't even kill the otyugh in Irenicus' dungeon. But I've managed to complete BG2 SoA in a duo party with Xan and my PC, a sorcerer (both elves of coz) with SK-ing some good items. Maybe I will do a proper run-through of IWD2 since I'm not familiar with it as compared to BG2. (My last run-through few years back just managed to make it to the "Game Room" in Chap2. Perhaps with a modified party from the presets)

So, regarding the NPCs link u just posted, are the stats good? I think I will try with a full party of 1PC+5NPCs first 'coz my current trio party isn't able to kill Vrek Vileclaw as I don't have tanker and my Paladin/Wizard isn't doing enough damage (I can't figure out how to add stats, I usually search for them online.)

IWD2 rules aren't as well-suited to soloing as in BG2: in BG2 a soloer would level up much faster than a party, while in IWD2 you end up losing the advantage because of the Challenge Rating system, but I heard it's still doable (even without cheating). An Aasimar Paladin(2) -> Sorceror is probably the easiest character to start soloing with. Stat-wise, max out Strength, Constitution and Charisma at the expense of Intelligence, increase Charisma when you level up. Start plaing like a plain warrior (wear the best armor and shield, don't use spells except for precasting Mirror Images) until you can learn Stoneskin, at which point you can use that, Mage Armor and Mirror Images to absorb the damage, while hitting your enemies with spells and swords.

The IWD2NPCs aren't minmaxed, but you don't really need minmaxing (or using cheats) if you go with a full party.

To alter your stats you can use DaleKeeper 2.

I see. thanks for the info.I haven't been playing games for a long time, probably lost the touch or forgot how to play.yeah agree about bg2 solo -- i've completed on solo a few times in the past with spellcasters and cleric/mage. i want to play as a drow sorceress in a full party from the NPCs, but noticed the NPCs have stats like str 10 for a spellcaster. for the drow sorceress build, what would be the right stats?

In the long run, a pure Sorceror only needs 12 INT (to get both Concentration and Spellcraft) and maxed out CHR (for more and harder to resist spells). I can't imagine what would the best allocation of the stats be if soloing, though. A Human could drop INT to 3 and still max out Concentration and Spellcraft, thus being able to max out DEX, CON and CHR (and a Paladin -> Sorceror could pillage points from WIS without completely gimping his Will saves).

I'd like to use bows for the drow sorceress PC. I'm thinking of finishing a run with a 6-people party before I get to trio/duo/solo the game. So maxing DEX, CON and CHA is the best idea for the long run?
Thx

A Drow needs to have 12 int to be able to max out both Concentration and Spellcraft, which severely limits your min/maxing potential (you need max Conc to be able to cast spells while receiving damage, and Spellcraft to eventually learn Spirit of Flame, which gives you +20% fire damage) - I'd max out Dex and Cha, drop two points each from Str and Wis to pump Con, and leave Int at 12 (develop Cha when leveling up).

If soloing does not work, you can try the Heart of Fury mode. I have never tried either so I have no idea how good they are.

I have been able to complete the Shadows of Amn part of the Delta version of Icewind Gate 2. Currently I am doing the ToB expansion. That Otyugh was tough but we took him down without too much trouble, your party line-up or tactics may be the problem.
