Google Buzz dangerous?
« on: February 12, 2010, 05:33:33 AM »
This week I opened my Gmail page and saw some advertisement about Google Buzz social net. I shrugged and pressed the button "Nah, go to my Inbox". I haven't seen Google Buzz since.

But today I saw a disturbing post in Livejournal(and, later, some more articles all over the net). Basically, it means that all Gmail users are now Buzz users, and everybody can see my e-mail and list of contacts, even if I never visited this Google Buzz myself?

Or am I wrong? I hope I am wrong.

Do you know more?

As far as I can see, it's more Google's approach to a mixture between Twitter and Facebook. While you are indeed automatically following a bunch of people's profiles, your e-mail address is protected (or supposed to be), and you can disable people finding you pretty easily. So no, I don't think it's 'dangerous'.

That, and whenever we release a mod, we've got our email addresss in them, anyway, so privacy is straight out. I tend to keep one for gaming, one for RL.
