Yeah, that would be it, Caedwyr.  A different transition would be nice for the ones where it doesn't make sense though...

What about replacing bovine with porcine in the current path where Charname refers to an orc.   I think that would be more in line with what people commonly see as having similar features to an orc.

Pig would be even better, and have that double meaning too.

....and when I bash its skull in, you do not mind if I picture you in its dull features, hm?

doesn't really have the right ring in my opinion.  Neither does

i'll stick with porcine when i get around to it.
when i've gotten that far i'll probably link 'em up right too.  or add another?
the "original" 1e monster manual orcs had absurdly, >lamely< porcine heads.
i don't recall any mundane comparisons in tolkien, however.  ask my roommate.

here's the real UB, from a previous post in the old forum:

(NI state's)

(state 55): Why are you so withdrawn, <CHARNAME>? You've not said more than three words the last half day.
First transition index: 71

(state 59): Is there something there inside you that belies more than the cursory social obligations? Something more intimate?
First transition index: 78

Unless it's to address this  ;D

And has anyone ever searched Vic's dialogue for other UB?

Tolkien is notoriously light on descriptions in many areas--including Orcs and Trolls. That's why different artists' depictions of them very so widely. There is evidence to suggest that Tolkien himself did not form a clear idea of the evil creatures of Middle-Earth very clearly before setting them down to paper, evidence such as the way the 3 Trolls from The Hobbit are totally irreconcileable with the Trolls in Lord of the Rings.

Getting back to BG, though, I'd like to point out that Orogs' heads look a lot more porcine than Orcs' heads do. Orcs look more like apes than anything else.

Is there actual, uh, concensus to change the word "bovine" to "porcine"?

I thought this was Unfinished Business.

As has been noted, Tolkien was not very clear in his descriptions. However, we know that the Sindar in Beleriand initially took the Orcs for "Avari (Elves) that had grown savage in the wild". Since Orcs were bred from Elves, it figures that they'd look somewhat alike, although Orcs were undoubtedly uglier (Orcs might also have been bred from men, but since Elves and Men originially looked about the same, that's a m00t point here).
