I do recall a thread where it was mentioned that even default users have the ability to lock their own threads, and will be allowed to do so if it isn't abused.  This could come in useful if you want to post a link-list (like the ones Icelus has), post a fanfic, and possibly other uses.

In this case, however, I don't see it being very useful at all.  A few reasons spring to mind, and here's how my train of thought went:

This forum is for general chit chat.
It's up to the moderators to decide what's chitchat, and what's off topic.
This thread was generally awful and boring to begin with, but that doesn't mean people can't post in it if they want to.
So... unlocked until further notice.

I have a few things of my own to add.

1. It's my thread to lock, and I don't see why it can't be locked when Easter's over.

2. Sorry you don't like Easter Ghrey, or holiday cheer  :P

3. BLEH!

It is not your thread to lock simply because you made the first post.  It could be considered to belong to everyone who's posted in it, the owners of PPG, or possibly the entire human race.  The fact is that you don't have the right to lock a thread on this forum in which other people may want to reply, simply because you feel like pretending you're someone important.

So in conclusion: dood, wtf?

Well, we have our first Forum Memorial Rule.

The Discharger Memorial Rule: standard users are no longer allowed to lock their own topics on this forum. Sorry, everyone.

That is not good. I think dis should just rethink his position on this.

Locking topics has its merits when

1) you want to keep a thread (fanfic, tools, links etc) tidy and updateable at the same time without hassling everybody else.
2) If you actually feel that your thread has surpassed its intended lifespan, you can indicate why and end it. (This can be tricky and people could PM you to reopen it). It should be indicated why it has been closed if that is not obvious or self explanatory. Generic Spam threads run the risk of not going anywhere in the first place thus not running out of reasons to exist.

As an example:

I locked this http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php?topic=65.0 after my question has been adressed and all the other posts led astray. After this thread (http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php?topic=195.0) had been established website discussion moved on anyways.

I agree that locking forums that are no longer relevant is permissable, but anything in Ensign First Class Blather should always be open, unless the great gods of the forum (points to the moderators) deem otherwise.

But todays my B-day, so I'm happy again!  ;D

I decree to not lock my threads.

And if it helps any, sorry Ghrey?
