New possibilities...
« on: April 12, 2009, 07:38:50 PM »
Here's a quote from the FAQ
Quote
Q: How does it work? What should I do to get banters and interactions?

A: Just play the game: enter new areas, slay monsters, complete quests and find quest items.  Due to the engine limitations, you will not get dialogues at rest/at waking/every hour, the way it was done in BG2, so resting excessively will not affect the game. As for the interjections, the character should detect your NPCs presence by hearing or sight, which means they will have to be alive and in the visual range.

In general, keeping your companions alive and close together is recommended.

AND STOP OFTEN, ESPECIALLY AFTER ENTERING A NEW AREA.
I'd like to propose that it is now possible to do the highlighted part IF a mod that I just posted on my website is installed.  I'll let you take a look at it and see if it is something that you would be interested in taking advantage of.  The link to the page regarding the mod: http://sasha-altherin.webs.com/restforonly8hours.htm

Oh, it looks nice! Congrats on finishing it.

Will it be available in .zip or .rar format? I'd like to add it to the modlist, as well, but I am not sure if your average user(like me) will be able to work with .7z format.

To be completely cynical, I decided to ignore rest/on waking dialogues, because they were a horrible mess in IWD2 NPC project - Domi constantly worked on various bug reports connected to these dialogues/flirts, and even v2, as far as I know, isn't completely free of these issues. So I thought it'd be too much of a headache for IWD NPC players.

My website host won't let me post zip files. I can do rar and 7z files. I technically don't have the ability to make rar files. WinRar has a trial period and I'm well past that.  I suppose I could use 7zip to make zip files and rename them as rar files and tell people that they need to rename them back to zip files but that is probably asking about as much as I am now with needing to use 7zip...

I think it'd be cool if they would have something to say after rest. We wouldn't have to get the lines voiced unless you want them to have voices. I  am willing to do the bulk of the coding and testing to develop an optional component in my mod that would require your mod to be installed earlier in the process. I would need help with the dialog files. I can make action and trigger modifications, but d file structure still eludes me at times and my text wouldn't do your characters any justice.

The problem is, that at the moment I'm writing a deadline-d short story, and there's a (my second) novel in progress about these characters which needs most of my attention. So - yes, I don't reject the idea outright, especially with IWD->BG2 conversion on the horizon - and, yes, it's possible we'll introduce something like this in v2(IF I think of appropriate material, that is), but I'd rather say no than give false hope.

Uhm, I've had the trial version for years and it works fine. It asks you to upgrade, yes, but it works just fine if you click "close" and otherwise ignore the message. :)
"Show me how you do that trick! The one that makes me scream", she said,
"the one that makes me laugh!" she said and threw her arms around my neck.
"Show me how you do it and I promise you, I promise that
I'll run away with you, I'll run away with you..."

Yeah, I know...  It makes me feel so much like a  :pirate continuing to use it though.

That's fine. I understand. I just felt that my mod would be a good complement to yours. Let me know if things change and you want to utilize my mod...

Claiming you don't have the "technical ability" is a lie, though. If the programme offers a way to go on using it that even an idiot can figure out in under to minutes, their problem. It's not like you're hax0ring it or anything.  ::)

Actually I kind of respect their approach. They don't force you to get a licence, they just make you feel bad... worked on me, anyway!
