Armor/shield sizes for elves/half elves?
« on: February 28, 2009, 12:56:24 AM »
Suggestion: Seeing that this is a rules/pnp centric mod, why not go with the correct rules for FR elves/half elves in PnP? FR elves are the same height as humans, and do not require smaller armor etc.

Earlier FR crpg's such as the goldbox games implemented this correctly (not the game engine per se, but the manual describing them as 'tall'), but for some inexplicable reason ALL of Bioware's FR games, (BG, BG2, NWN, NWN2 etc ) have elves in a supposted FR setting game set to Greyhawk elf height and description... why not take this as an opportunity to correct this oversight, as well as reduce the content slightly for this mod since resized equipment for elves/half elves would not be necessary?

I'm far from a PnP expert, but I think BioWare's rationale can be traced to the Player's Handbook:

Elves
Elves tend to be somewhat shorter and slimmer than normal humans. Their features are finely chiseled and delicate, and they speak in melodic tones. Although they appear fragile and weak, as a race they are quick and strong.

Apparently, in the Forgotten Realms elves and humans are alike in height and build. I will take a look at it.

The players handbook is superceded by campaign setting specific material; that's the point of having specific campaign worlds like FR or Dark Sun, Dragonlance, etc. The rules/ceddescriptions introduced by campagin material replaces/updates/supercedes the core books. FR elves have always been as tall as humans, al beit more lithe in build. I simply don't understand why bioware chose to go this route; surely someone pointed this out to them over the years since they put out the bg games then nwn1, nwn2, etc?
