Finishing Kagain's quest

I recently installed BG Unfinished Business, and I'm trying to finish Kagain's finishable quest.  I've been assuming that something is supposed to happen when I encounter the caravans in the area north of Beregost, but I don't find anything different when I do.  The one different thing I've seen is that Kagain doesn't say anything when entering the area.

Am I completely off base, or should I be looking for an installation problem?  I have BG + TOSC + the official patch + Baldurdash + Unfinished Business.

I did finally get something to trigger.  I guess I just never moved Kagain to that part of the caravan where he could see the body.

What happened then was that Kagain walked over to the body and gave what sounded like his parting speech.  He then walked back to the party as if he had been talked to asking if the party wanted him back.  Then he walked back to the body and everything repeats.  I mentioned this in the bug thread, and I'll be happy to give you more specifics if you want.

I have the same problem as Robert.  Same installation as him, BG, ToSC, 1.3.5512 Bioware patch, Baldurdash fixpack, UB.  Oh, I also have the Baldurdash ToSC game text update.

I grab Kagain in Beregost, and the quest to look for Entar's son goes into my journal.  I go north to the Crossroads, AR 2800.  Kagain says nothing upon entering the area.  The party walks to the larger caravan near the center of the map, no named bandits to be seen.  Kagain walks on top of the dead body, and gives his parting speech:

"You've got hardy hides, folk.  If you ever need any more dwarven muscle around, you've got it."

Kagain leaves the group.  Then a second or 2 later, without my talking to him, he walks up to the group and gives his rejoining speech:

"It's about time you got back!  Some nerve yous barrelheads have, leaving me to stand here for so long.  It's a wonder I suffer your company at all."

Unless I walk away from the caravan, Kagain will continually walk back to the body, leave the group, then come back to the party, and rejoin.

Hmm...I recently played this and it worked fine. Also worked fine last time I played 1 to 2 years ago.

While on the subject, do you need Kagain in your party to do the rest of the quest in Baldur's Gate, or is it enough to have the item found on the body of Entar's son?

I had the exact same problem (only all I had was the ease of use mod and the non-Tutu UB).

My problem is similar. When I get to the caravan, Kagain walks to the body and says:

"Heh, my reputation's probably calmed down by now, anyway. See ya around, ya lumps."

Then he leaves the group. I cannot speak to him when his circle turns blue, and he doesn´t show up in his shop in Beregost. ???
Is this his normal behaviour? Will I meet Kagain in another place?

I'm having a similar issue; there is a caravan, in the map north of Beregost (S of Friendly Arms Inn) that is abandoned, in the center-right, with one permanent dead body.  I am assuming this is where Kagain makes his speech?  The other caravan has 7gp, but no body.  This is the right screen, and the right place, correct?

I arrive there (a place I already explored), and wait for Kagain to do something...anything...but he doesn't. 

I am using the original BG 5-disc install, patched with the last official update. 
I also have ToSC installed, with the last official update as well.

After that I installed mods in this order (as laid out here: http://alloutwar.wordpress.com/)
BGQE (mini-quest mod from Gibberlings 3)
Baldurdash fixes (including Baldur's Gate/Tales Of The Sword Coast English-Language Game Text Update v1.1 )
Baldur's Gate - Unfinished Business

Once I did all this I had to roll back to the previous dialogue.tlk file, due to corruption from something - too many mods, probably. 

So am I a) being a moron and trying to trigger this in the wrong place, or b) experiencing a glitch?

Can you post the content of your WeiDU.log? You find the file in the BG2 main directory and you can open it with a textprogram.

Okay, I can post that tonite.

BTW, I went back to the caravan place with the boys body, and placed Kagain on it...waited 30 seconds...and suddenly, the infinite loop thing began.  The same thing Robert + Dru are experiencing. 

I never got any dialogue saying his quest had ended, just the infinite loop started.  The only thing I could do was, after he joined up, just start clicking to the exit and leave the screen.  So I guess I got out of it - weird bug is all.

Last thing I'll say about this: I dropped Kagain off in Beregost, after the whole nonsense with his quest and all.  I put him outside the burning wizard (where I also left Ajantis). 

The next time I came to Beregost, he approaches me and initiates the same dialogue - as if I had asked him to join up again.  I tell him to go away, and he approaches and initiates again.  Soon he is following me all around beregost and making life hell (because I have 6 characters anyway). 

So now my plan is to drop off some folks at FAI, allow him to join, and then drop him back in his store where he won't bother me ever again.  I'm also Lawful Good, with reputation now 20, if that matters.  So somehow the Kagain variable is set to 'always bother PC'.

Does anyone know a workaround for this problem so I can continue my game while this bug is resolved?

I was thinking in something like editing a Global Variable with the console or Gate/SwordCoast Keeper maybe, but I don't have a clue about modding.

Have the same problem.
I got BG + TOSC and just UB as a mod...

kagain go over the corpse, and then just say goodbye and leaves the party.

So far the UB is being a shitty mod
Anyone know how to fix this?

It's not a shitty mod, Kagain's thing is just a bug, and bugs get resolved, in a time.

Hey All,

If it helps, I got around the "Finishing Kagain's Quest" problem by unzipping BG1UB v6, then unzipping & copying over just the Kagain's Quest files from BG1UB v4, and then installing all of the mod.  I haven't any further problems, even with other mods.  ;D

It worked!

I didn't replace all the files, but only rKAGAIJ.D, because all the other files were identical except for rKAGAIN.BAF and in rKAGAIN.BAF the changes are minimun (I think it checks if Kagain is in the party), so I suppose the new version of rKAGAIJ.D contains the bug.

Just one point about Kagain's quest:

When Kagain discover the dead body he says that he is coming with me to hunt the bandits; the problem is, in Chapter 1, my character is not after the bandits but he is going to Nashkell.

Would it be possible make Kagain to say something different if the player is in Chapter 1 (which it's the normal situation, because Kagain is in Beregost which is in the way to Nashkell) and if the player is in another chapter, keep the present dialogue?
