Baldur's gate 2 issue (potential minor spoiler)

Apologies if this is the wrong forum to post this but I am having issues with the dream sequence shortly after Irenicus sends you to sleep.
When approaching the demon and asked what I wish to relinquish  to know myself the game automatically chooses the default "I choose nothing!" I then get stuck in a loop without anyway to break it or make a choice. 

I'm using the fully patched Baldur's gate 2/tob 5 cd version on windows XP. Here is my weiDu list:

Do you see the replies in the first place? I mean, the game can't choose a reply for you - sometimes it happens that your keyboard gets stuck(or you press the buttons a little too vigoriously) and flips through a few dialogue states, however.

Yep, I see replies and Ive considered it might be keys sticking (even tried a new keyboard) but nothing seems to change. though I have noticed if I skip through the beginning stages of the text (by spamming enter) I do actually have enough time (3-4 seconds) to make a choice before it automatically choses the final option.

It seems to be random too, I managed to get past the demon, go through all the dialogue options with Irenicus with no issue then it cropped up again when Imoen asks to join the party and suddenly the final option is selected again. However when she asks you to confirm your decision I could pick any reply I wished with no jumping ahead.
