Where can I get the source of IWG2?
« on: March 28, 2007, 01:33:05 AM »
Hi, everyone.

I am playing IWG2 now, and I have fixed some cutscenes and added the animations of Irenicus, Bodhi, Mellisan, Solar, Anti-Solar. But I am not satisfied, I want to make it better and share it with people.

So, could anyone of you please tell me where I can get the source of IWG2, if it is public?
Thank you.

The source of IWG2 is inside the WeiDU archive - just type 'make weimorph' rather than simply 'make'. If V199 source gives you troubles, use the source from WeiDU v185.

I assume you know OCaml, yes...?

Heh, trust me I've been scared too, the first time I read it. After some time, you'll have the revelation and it'll all become clear. Partially.

Hello the Bigg,

I had no idea you were the guy who is updating the WeiDU, big respect! :) You must be one of the people who knows the most about Icewind Gate 2, and I'm going to play it in HoF mode despite warnings. I think my party is up to the task. Weimer isn't managing this forum anymore, and as you seem to have taken over his WeiDU project, I hope you have some interest in this beta too.
I'd like to renew interest in this project, and try to link the makers of IWD2 mods to this forum (especially in sorcerer's place, since a lot of modmakers are there) so they can offer feedback too.
I must say IWG2 works fine with every IWD2 mod, provided they are installed BEFORE runnig IWG2. But not all mods take effect:
1) Ease-of-use and Light of Selune mods add non-druid spells to the druid, and these become (memorizable but) uncastable both in IWG2 and IWD2, if IWG2's installed (except Tremor at level 8, but this was originally a level 9 druid spell). I'm really pissed off about this: a lot of my new druid spells are greyed out and state: "[spellname] Beyond Druid Casting Ability (F5)". Perhaps IWG2 links the new spells to the wrong casting ability again. It has nothing to do with CHA, because I tried cheating my druid to high CHA, and it didn't change anything. I tried to install the relevant Ease-of-use component AFTER IWG2, it did make the spells castable, but the game often crashes upon loading. The Bigg, I'm hoping you have some idea how to fix this bug, because if anyone has any idea, it would be you.
Tactics4IWD2 HoF mode gives bonuses to the party, namely AC and hitpoints. Only the hitpoints seem to transfer to IWG2. Not sure about the immunity to Disintegrate and damage bonuses though.
So far all other mods seem to work, but they don't really alter big things.

N.B. DON'T try installing mods after running IWG2 unless it seems necessary, because the game is inclined to crash from this. Installing alternate druid shapeshifting after seems to ruin the shapeshiftings, you get weird options instead (sequencers that don't work, illithid mind blast...).
A good thing about the IWG2 installer, is if you click it again it will simply reinstall itself, and make all mods as if you'd installed them before IWG2 in the first place.

This assumption is invalid, henceforth you're asking questions to the wrong person.

Sorry, I didn't want to make you feel pressured into replying.
This project has been largely abandoned, but if anybody has ANY interest at all in troubleshooting this, I'll be working on it as I play.

Update: Progress Report
« Reply #7 on: July 07, 2008, 04:40:14 PM »
I've found the Icewind Gate II beta surprisingly playable, even in HoF mode.

So far I've only encountered 3 drawbacks:
1) The point where Bodhi's vampires appear, as mentioned in the walkthrough, is indeed debilitating for my party. So much code rushes through the dialogue screen that they can hardly move. The advice here was to jump the party to another map. Since I didn't know any area codes, I just Ctrl+J jumped to an exit point and left normally. Returning was no problem.
2) When entering the cult o/t Unseeing Eye's HQ, I get a cutscreen where a new worshipper gets killed while trying to remove his eyes, but I never regain control of my gamebar. Had to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to exit game. I reloaded and Ctrl+Y killed the two characters in question on sight. No cutscreen, no problems
3) The cloak of the Sewers still has transformations, but disables the Item Abilities button. Since the transform-back-to-human is an item ability, there's no way to transform back, unless you're a druid. Had to reload.

As you can see, I made it this far in the game, only encountering these few problems. Unless you have no clue how to use cheat codes, I would recommend playing it. It's an unpolished diamond!

Other gameplay remarks:
There is a balance issue, as all enemies are enhanced. This makes powerful enemies a bit stronger, but greatly enhances the danger of random foes. Being waylaid by enemies is now a real danger for my high level party. Simple thugs with unenchanted daggers have the potential to backstab you for lots of damage! I nearly got my sorceress killed once. I must say it doesn't bother me (yet), because I like the challenge.
The sequencers are gone from the game, but certain enemies still fire off insta-cast spells upon sight, so the enemy may still have them.
What I've seen so far is that the most dangerous spells from BG2 which aren't in IWD2 have been replaced with summons mainly. This makes me very glad I installed Min Wu / Nameless One's Tactics4IWD2 mod, because this makes all summons (mine too) start off with 10-20% hitpoints - Near Death. Summons are only useful IMO if you have the chance to (Mass) Heal them.
All mods I installed appear to be functioning properly, with the exception of those I mentioned in my first post.
Spellblasting is no easy killer anymore. When facing any decent opponent my level 30 wizard casts a 30d10 DBFB, and this is sufficient to get opponents Badly Hurt mostly, so you can imagine how much hitpoints they have.

I have HoF mode on, Insane (monsters do double damage), and the IWD2Tweak 'Max HP for non-party NPCs'. This isn't to show off, just to illustrate that IWG2 HoF is playable.

Nameless One (above) has been making some improvements to the code, and created an unofficial delta for IWG2!

He mailed it to me, and I'm offering it to anyone interested in testing it. I can't report yet what kind of improvements there are.

find it here:

Druid spells at last!
« Reply #9 on: March 05, 2009, 01:40:09 AM »
I finally got the additional druid spells from Ease-of-use and Light of Selune to work. The source of the problem was that iwg2 overwrites the LISTSPLL.2DA file, in which spells are attributed to classes. So although my imported character had additional spells memorized, the couldn't be cast because they were no longer recognized as druid spells. Simply replacing the LISTSPLL.2DA file with the one before it was overwritten doesn't work; it will cause the game to crash upon loading a savegame.
The new LISTSPLL.2DA must be altered with a text editor by hand. So if you want the Stoneskin spell at druid level 4, simply change a 0 into a 4 in the druid column at the line that has SPWI408. Looking up all the spells' codes is painstaking, but it will pay off in the end:)

umm... could someone more smart than me please extract weimorph source code and upload it here? I'd like to take a look but struggling to get it out. Preferably from the the delta version that has been improved compared to what hangs on weimer's site.

edit: found the source in v236: http://www.weidu.org/~thebigg/old/WeiDU-Windows-236.zip
