how to take a screenshot in BG2?

Press the "print screen" button.

IIRC a file will be created in the scrnshot directory (also created if absent) in your current working directory. Alternatively, I think the screen capture is also copied to clipboard so if you open up an image editor you can paste it in.

Yes, which also allows you to compress it or change its format, should that be necessary.
