Turn Undead
« on: September 17, 2006, 08:25:01 PM »
Does anyone know how Baldur's Gate 2 evaluates the chances of turning/destroying undead with a cleric?

It doesn't seem to match up with the table in my 2e player's handbook.

Furthermore, is there any way of modifying it?

It is different from the table in Player's Handbook in that there is no limit to how powerful it can get. That is why clerics in ToB instantly kill liches and all other undeads. As far as I recall, it is not possible to alter how it works but creatures can be given immunity to turning/commanding.

Certainly it is extended beyond the table in my player's handbook.  But it seems like it doesn't quite match up even for levels 1-14.

According to my table, a 6th level cleric should be able to destroy skeletons with turn undead.  However, my 6th-level cleric could only turn them.  It wasn't until level 8 that she could destroy them.  (And before you say something, yes she was a cleric not a paladin  ::))

Could these skeletons (specifically from FW4200 in tutu)  have been an exception to the rule, or is the turn undead table that BGII uses different even for these earlier levels?

Also, has anyone actually tried to compile a table for the higher levels?

I think it is only a matter of Cleric Level vs. Undead Creature Level, and not the type of undead. They may have simplified it, or tweaked it, or something.

Hrm, all the spawn skeletons are 1 HD.
You should have destroyed them at lvl6.  Isn't the table progression 20/16/13/10/T/D?
If you aren't happy, it's not my fault.

Table 61 in my Player's Handbook says 10/7/4/T/T/D for Skeletons/1 HD, but what I am saying is that BioWare may have altered this. And from what you have experienced, this seems to be the case.

Well, my 5th level cleric isn't auto-turning even - let alone fragging them, so, yeah.

If you aren't happy, it's not my fault.
