I just think that you are doing yourself a disservice if you emphasize something too much. Do a search on certain swearwords on G3 and see what I mean.

PPG has to take the all-in option on policy discussions so the abuse is more frequent. I respect minorities as long a they are not moral majorities.

@majority/minority
I think everybody agrees on the fact that owners/admins set their forum rules as they see fit. I just have an itchy feeling whenever laws of nature, common sense, the will of god or other authorities are invoked to simply say the my way/highway thing. It is all well and good just call a spade a spade and we are safe.

Sidenote: Disabling guest posting is something I strongly disagree with and can be seen as a related example of a policy discussion.

There is nothing like Arcanum with a forum policy discussion thrown in between turns. :-D

@I'm not sure there's really much more that needs to be said on the matter

Ok, also interesting atm: http://www.bookmooch.com/  Has anybody tried this? I bet they don't operate here as always.

I can't claim to be an avid reader of books, but my flatmate swears by some online exchange service or other, I must presume they do actually work.

The Baron does amuse us so, I had to show restraint to even post in this topic after a few other related topics. But my amusement got the better of me and so here we are.  :D

This thread is Hillarious. It's clearly obvious that Baronius doesn't give a toss about his rules by his attitude shown here, he just likes to go "WAAAA! THATS THE RULES! BANED"

If he actually cared about removing profanity, he'd...edit the post himself to remove it. Like most moderators do when they're worried about profanity.

And no, this thread is not hillarious, it is rubbish. These threads are typically internet trash and those who love to swim in it. This is exactly the kind of cr** we don't allow at BWL. Then why do I post in it? I had twenty minutes or so to make a hopeless attempt to make you understand a few things you were complaining about. But it wasn't worth it. I always seem to forget: no need to explain anything to intelligent people, they know it already; while to others, it's hopeless: they won't understand something they didn't understand earlier.
Though I respect that you feel yourself good here, everyone should obviously spend his/her time in a way (s)he finds to be the most relaxing or fun. Enjoy the mob's fun, Sim. This side of yours seemed to prevail over the other one. What a pity.
Remember that condescension thing I was bringing up earlier?  You may still want to look into that.  When you intentionally and personally insult your readers, they usually don't pay attention to what you have to say.  Funny, how that works, no?  My seven year old son advocates himself better.

"Golden mean" is an existing expression to my knowledge, but maybe the dictionary is wrong then... Anyway, it means compromise, something which is good for both sides.
Yes, my education is somewhat lacking then as the expression definately exists.  I looked it up in my handy Australian pocket oxford dictionary(It's the Australian one so it could be a bit sus.  I guess I could try the online book exchange and get a better one. :)) and it said 'neither too much nor too little'.  Interpret that as an accurate measure/guide to online forum behaviour :-\??

Even sensible use of censoring software can be pretty bad--I've seen Calimshite get censored on various BG forums.

And let's not forget the classic censoring: TeamBG used to have fwstudios.net changed to poopy.net. Which turned out to be a porn site. Sigh.

That's actually fun!

Closed minded works both ways eh? Some of us are telling you, yes you, that to get upset over something so trivial as, OMG swear words, is just plain stupid. If this so called minority of people who are offended by it, oh well. Don't read it. Go back to your sheltered life and live.

Ummm.... well.....

It's none of my business what you serious moddarz-types do with your free time, (and I am going to SERIOUSLY regret opening my mouth 8) ) but it looks like fun, so here goes...

some of us (that's me, f***headed d***-wads) who are f***ing candy-assed b****y newbie c***-s***ing freeloading b**tards would love you experienced code-swinging p**ies to stop b****ring eachother, pissing away good modding/testing time with this, get off your d***s  and help our sorry s**t-eating m*****-f*****g a***s get some of these s****y f*****g slow-as-g**-d****d projects off of flatline and into players' hands before they grow too old to see the f***ing computer screen.

(of course, I would not dream of saying this at G3; just thought since everyone was having fun swearing, I'd give it a try. Didn't think I had it in me. Nope, I don't feel I truly got the right sentiment...  I guess I need more practice! Hmm, my brother's in the USN - I will be back when I have more creative swearwords to use. Or is it "not what you use, but how and at whom?" ;D)

my apologies, Bex... I think I agree. Not my usual method of communicating - not good debate practice either.
Plus, it has been years since I found it necessary to truly swear, so I'm a little rusty. Please feel free to edit or remove - it wasn't truly contributing to either comedic proceedings or actual resolution.

It set up my Wheel Of Fortune reference.

Are you saying my reference was unfunny? I'm sure there's a rule somewhere about having to laugh politely whenever Compton makes a game show reference nobody gets or cares about...

Yes, I'm easily entertained.

Now I'd like to buy a vowel (umm... wrong show?)

I have two observations:

1) SimDing0 is arrogant.

2) So is Baronius.

It is a well known fact that when two arrogant people disagree, there is an intense argument.

*cracks knuckles*

Baronius, you are rude, even though you try to have a thin veneer of politeness, or at least justify your rudeness. This is probably the main source of amount of eye-rolling or anger that results from your various posts, and could possibly be a factor in a posters refusal to cooperate with your policies.

You'd probably be a bit more effective with a bit less pride. Or a bit more apathy. See, if you didn't CARE about what SimDing0 though of you and your policies, you could have just ignored him. Banned him when he wouldn't comply with your policies, and then ignored whatever he had to say about it. Or, you could simply have said "he broke the rules, so he paid the consequences." And then gone on with life. But, apparently you do care. Which is also ok. Just more difficult.

You're also allowed to be arrogant and condescending, if you want to. You'll just have to deal with those who get riled by it, and call you on it, or are also arrogant and condescending, etc. etc... and it will most likely cause you a whole lot more stress. Unless, of course, you enjoy the whole thing, which you might.

I'd ask you get off your high horse, but there'd be no point. Instead, I'll just sit here and cackle. And maybe type a few words when I feel like it.

1) SimDing0 is arrogant.
If you've arrived at this conclusion from this thread alone, I think you should reconsider Baronius' disturbingly extensive rhetoric about how my swearing once in a sensible post is an underhanded attempt to destroy the values BlackWyrm believes in. There are of course plenty of other reasons that I'm arrogant, but I encourage you to discover them on your own. :)
