It isn't that I don't like you. I do, very much! I just can't get on G3 to post to the appropriate board, and I was hoping someone here knew the answer.

Where the heck is Kivan? He's supposed to track me down in Waukeen's Promenade, but I can't find him.

Thanks in advance.

IIRC he's just south of the exit from Irenicus' dungeon, and wanders up to greet you.

If you're not using a new game I'm unsure what happens, exactly.

Hmmmm. I started a new game, and no Kivan.

That's odd. Could you post your WeiDU.log file? It'd probably be of help for when Domi sees this.

Heh, I seem to be answering more questions cross-boards nowadays than ever.

In a new game he does show up near the ruins and walks towards the PC. In a non-new game, he spawns in the Ilmater's Temple. It's difficult for me to say what goes wrong in your game, or if anything goes wrong, but trying to spawn P#Kivan via CLUA could be the first good check to make sure the mod installed. :)

It did. He's there. I CLUA'd him in, but I don't care. He's there, he's in the party, and I'm a happy camper.

Gotta take a break from other projects, sometimes.

Strange. Right when I went into the temple, he talked and then he dimension doored away to who knows where, which is why I am posting this :-yin. Where did he go? I am trying to recruit my old party which is the following:

Nightshadow (Me) ;D
Imoen (Jailed) :P
Jaheira (check) :)
Xan (check) :)
Khalid (I'll sub with mazzy so check) :)
Kivan (where?) ???

He said something about "violence being unavoidable ???."
Also, I really like this party, I do :-*!

Violence being unavoidable is a Harper quest line. Usually, when you get dialog that really belongs somewhere else, it's because your dialog file is corrputed. Could your dialog file have been corrupted? Too bad Kivan isn't in the party. You could have tried the string-fixer. I thought I'd encountered every problem with every mod ever written, but I guess I'm wrong.

Just for the sake of completeness, you weren't doing anything to your installation when you installed Kivan, were you? There are some thing's I've done that have messed things up. These are: had the game open when I installed, had SK open when I installed, did one partial installation before moving on and forgetting about the first one (installation window was still open, but I was miles away, never noticed the open DOS window, and went ahead and attempted to install anyway). I am sure you would not have done any of those stupid things I have done, but it always pays to eliminate the obvious.

Hope you can get this to work. Kivan is awesome.

This issue and reason was reported here (it's a game issue, I think):

http://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?showtopic=6156

Apparently, if you do not have the whole party in the Temple he dimensions away. Guys, I would be able to answer questions muuuuch quicker if you went to the main forum. G3 is up and running again :)

I got my whole party into the building and Kivan is now recruited, but all the text is gone :-X. The dialogue text must be invisible because when it came to the recruiting dialogue part, I was clicking in the box and now that is how I got that ???. However, his long bow, hood, and spear has no text. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with the patches and done everything, and Kivan doesn't say anything like "What do you want?", but he did before I reinstalled the mod :-\. Also, if you need to know the mods I have, I just have the Xan one from Pocket Plane and the Kivan mod I explained :o.

You most probably reinstalled the mod while your game was running - this is what causes "blank" dialogue lines. Try a reinstall with your game shut down, then initiate a player-initiated dialogue with Kivan and select the option "Kivan, something is wrong with your voice". This should fix the soundset - if it becomes mangled in install/reinstall.
Hang in there. I'll try to make you glad you did.

That is definitely a corrupted dialog file, and I would know, because I've done it often enough. The usual culprit is having something game-related running (like SK, or the game itself) while you are doing the installation. I also bunged up my installation one time because I was trying to install several things during a rebuild and I left one with the DOS window open while working on another. Oops.

The give-away is the empty dialog window, with random clicks inside the box triggering dialog choices you can't see. Another is the fact that mod-introduced items have no accompanying text.

Uninstalling/reinstalling will not help at this point unless you completely delete your override folder and WeiDU log.

What I usually do: Uninstall ToB and SoA. Move the zipped or self-extracting mod files to a separate folder (I call mine "Keepers") together with all my custom portraits and sounds. I don't bother with saving characters. I can reproduce them with SK if I am that attached. Then I delete the whole SoA folder, with everything in it. I am not kidding.

Then I start over with a clean installation, patch, and mods.

Hope this helps.

Uninstalling/reinstalling will not help at this point unless you completely delete your override folder and WeiDU log.

Are you quite sure on that one?  The limited times I've actually fucked something by doing this, I just closed the rogue program and reinstalled the mod.  Worked just fine.

The reason it screws up is that the dialog.tlk can't be accessed by WeiDU and therefore the appropriate new strings don't get added.  However, when you reinstall that mod it should realise that it can't find those strings already and add them.

It works! Reinstalling the mod made the text visible again! Now, with the exception of Imoen and Khalid, everyone is here and accounted for! ;D

Now, where was I?
