(Why's JC always trying to go off topic?)

Marauder, I'm dying to hear, unless the timing's critical. I'm better when I have time to consider, you know

@Brazil: If they keep playing like that, they are gonna loooooose. Bald fat men are no good in sports. Just ask Andre Agassi.

Now Spain on the other hand had me bounzing on the couch for 90 minutes.

much as i hope they do (looooooooooose), those bastards only get better.

spain, yes that would be nice.  I'd like to see them against the czech republic, who have an excellent midfield, that unlike england, for example, know how to play with each other.

The more I watch, the more I like football. Easy to follow even if you don't know any of the rules (like me).

Poland has to go hoooooooome.  ;)

"I can't develop intelligence, tact, and a sense of humor on my own."

To which he answers: "Well, at least you're not in denial.", as in "well, at least you're not in denial about your lack of intelligence, tact, and sence of humor."

you see how global football can be?

you don't even have to talk about it when you're talking about it.  I hope no one has been insulted by the appalling  misuse of this thread.  Since i started it, i feel somwhat personally responsible.  I would say that most of you are probably pretty intelligent (decent vocabulary, the ability to learn and use what you've learned, as modders, somewhat obsessive with semantics, but i'll give you credit for attention to detail) however, tact and maturity are pretty rare on this forum.  Now considering most people here (I'm guessing) are on the under 25 side of the things, i'd say we're just gonna have to learn to live without the maturity.  Tact however, we can all handle, and telling people in an abrasive way that they have no tact is, well, pretty tactless.  I propose that from now on if anybody wants to slag anybody else personally, do it on your own thread.  In fact, maybe one of you moderator types can add a new subsection to the entire forum wherein each member gets their own thread and we all just add whatever nasty, rude, uninformed comment we please.  That way, we can get on with slagging each other for really important things - like who you're following in the world cup, for example.

Evaine: thanks for giving it a shot.  glad you like it - i fell into it in much the same way, so maybe in four years you'll be face painted and bejerseyed...

Marauder, why did you say all that crap? Or do you think I can't understand the phrase "Well, at least you're not in denial"? If that's so, then I thank you

Marauder, you have deciphered Icelus' and my posts (and they were supposed to be TOP SEKRIT) and exposed their true meaning, and now we can't let you live. For that you must die, and even double apologies will not save you
You shall die a dreadful death, without even knowing the name of the World Cup winner

EDIT> I mean, even if you don't know who's gonna win the World Cup, you know too much

6:0 is slaughter. I couldn't watch it, but how did this happen?

it's the kind of thing that shouldn't happen in what is supposed to be more or less the top 32 teams in the world (however, with regional qualification restrictions, you're never goona have the top 32).  The only good thing about it is that there is now one more team serving notice to Brazil that they can't just stroll their way through the tournament

Serbia-Montenegro are one of the better European teams: they got through a difficult qualification group (including Spain) conceding only one goal. the fact that Argentina put six goals past them says less about how bad Serbia-Montenegro might be, and a lot more about how good Argentina are (as their first game against the unlucky Ivory Coast - unlucky in being drawn in the same group as Argentina and the Netherlands - also did). it's going to take a remarkable defensive performance for any team to beat Argentina in this tournament.

Actually, 6-0 was a lot more than Argentina deserved (though they played very well). Towards the end of the match, S&M (sorry) were too dispirited to offer much in the way of resistance, which certainly aided Argentina in their last 3 goals.

So far, only Argentina seems anywhere close to showing the level of play needed to win the World Cup. Brazil is worthless (they were lucky to win their first two matches), Germany is struggling, Italy fails to impress, The Netherlands have shown 20 minutes of good football out of 180, England was never a real contender to begin with, and let's not get started on France, shall we?

Of course, the World Cup itself is fantastic this year, even though (perhaps because) so many "great" football nations fail to play at the level they should.

it's been fairly exciting, but i have to say i was hoping for more from some of the unknowns, particularly Ivory Coast who got stuck in a tough group.  It seems like despite some lackluster performances, the classic teams are the gonna be in the final.  Argy, holland, brazil, maybe england and germany.

C'mon OZ!!

I'm so sorry for Holland. I was in Nuremberg yesterday and all the Dutch there were so nice, friendly and fun and so much looking forward to the game. The entire game was so aggressive, I thought the players would beat each other up and the crowd was jeering so angrily.

England - Ecuador was terribly boring.

Australia vs Italy decided by the Spanish referee. That is even more brutal than Portugal vs Holland.

Also: (slightly unrelated): The Bavarians als whacked Bruno today.  :'(

Yep, I heard about poor Bruno's fate.  :'(  I don't understand why they couldn't catch him, but shooting him was so easy.

well, here i went to all this trouble and then it turned out to be just about the most boring cup that I've seen (I would normally say USA 94, but Cameroon did so well in that cup so I think this one is the worse viewing wise).  Anyway, all you fledgling football fans, don't give up yet, the premiership should be exciting with all those italian based players fleeing the peninnsula, and there's always the next world cup - South Africa 2010 (the year we make contact?)  In the meantime, there's always this...
