... and one was mine, so that doesn't count. But anyway, DA's release date hasn't been announced yet, for one, so I don't think this poll has any relevance. It's more like: "Have you heard of any of these games?"

Well, yes, I'm not saying it's time to close up shop and go work on Wasteland modding. Just saying it would be more exciting if we weren't trailing the field. (I think I may have voted for us too, so, y'know.)

But it actually is an honor to be nominated, since it means we're at least on the radar, if not the most highly sought-after title among the Banshee faithful.

If you build it, they will come.

People want a game that will fill that niche.

So it's time to build. Less talk.

These polls are pointless. Plenty of games have come out where people were "omgawd that's gonna B so hawt! Cant wait to play it!" And then literally years go by with little or no update, with continually sliding release dates.

What really surprises me is that the Wizard of the Coast (or whomever is in charge of D&D now) hasn't sued JC & Co. to death with trademark infringment for 'Plane Walker'...

I don't vote on those polls. I vote with my wallet. And jcompton, I'll vote early and often.

RPGCodex has posted a four-way interview among independent CRPG developers. One of the highlighted games is Broken Hourglass.

Thought I'd find it worth mentioning that a wiki article was created on TBH.

I can attest to not creating nor editing it myself.

I'm not going to bother asking when as that question seems to make everyone huffy but I do want to know if The Broken Hourglass will play on some ridiculous type of duo core processor, high speed, all the latest bells and whistles gaming computer?

Like, is it possible to have a computer "too good" for the game?

Not to our knowledge. It won't benefit directly from a multi-processor setup (we experimented with two threads, it didn't help) but it won't be hurt by one.

It does happen, you know. I've had it happen. Hell, NWN is unplayable without downloads and tweaking of settings. I'm sure your game engine is more advanced than NWN's. :) I keep forgetting to ask the resident computer expert but I don't think I can play  the BG series on my new computer without serious tweaking, if then. :(

It's always possible that subsequent updates to Vista will throw some crazy loop at us and independent games in general, but so far no computer has been "too new" for it.

Are you going to post system requirements? Or has Plane Walker already done so and I missed it.

Edit: Nevermind. Read the Q & A. You haven't but you will.

Who will be composing the musical score?

EDIT:  I mean, is there any small chance to get one of those guys that did the Torment / IWD / BG soundtrack, or are they out of your budget?

The score was done by Rob Howard. You can find two previews from the game's soundtrack on the PWG site:

That was never a realistic option.

I guess I didn't look closely on the game's webpage. Anyway, good stuff.

Oh, don't get me wrong.  It's not that I don't have faith in anyone else's music.  I just hoped it was someone decent.  Looks like you are on the right track.

I'm very happy with Rob's work, yes, and if I do say so myself I think we did a pretty good job getting a variety of strong , "tuneful" music considering our budget. I think he did a very good job interpreting my stylistic instructions and dealing with my "okay, look, I don't know WHAT'S wrong, but something just sounds weird between 0:38 and 0:54. Fix it." complaints.

And perhaps the best test is that I'm still not sick of hearing the theme song when the game fires up despite having heard it a billion times...

This game sounds interesting, but I have no way to pay for it unfortunately. Credit cards are hard to get here, and wire transfer fees are high. Paypal does not support bank transfers here either. So I have no way to buy the game when it comes out.

Apparently Jason wasn't the only one wondering why more BG2 style RPGs have been made.

Quote
Stardock is currently keeping busy with a turn-based fantasy game and a strategy MMO, both of which are still years away. But Wardell said that if he had additional time, he'd put it towards developing a "Baldur's Gate style RPG or an Ultima V style RPG."

"...There hasn't been that many [RPGs in that style]," he said. "I don't understand it, because I think there's still a market,"
he said, adding that a well-produced RPG in that vein could sell 200-300,000 units worldwide on a budget of $6-8 million.

"If a turn-based strategy game could do that, certainly a well produced RPG could."

*bump*

Just wondering how things are going.  I haven't seen any Monday, newsletter, updates in a while.  I miss them.  :(
Any chance of more previews on the Planewalker site?  Maybe info about the possible followers or screenshots of them?(a girl can wish :) )
Also I'd love to hear more of the music score.  I really like what Rob Howard has done.  I'm a sucker for middle eastern style music.
