Change backstab rules in BG2?

I suspect not, but is there any way to change the backstab rules so it works with any weapon?  Just got screwed discovering my axe grand-master berserker/thief dual-class's weapon "is unsuitable for backstab."  Considering the more lax 3rd edition rules, and how inconvenient the 2nd edition rules are for me in this situation, I say the limitation is STUPID, and want to change it.

Make all weapons usable by single-class thieves.  Ashes of Embers does this, if I recall correctly.
