No flaming sword?
« on: February 18, 2006, 11:12:14 AM »
Is it possible to give the moonblade the stylish flaming effect that it used in BG1? It would make xan all the better.

Also- am I the only one who can't hear the voiced lines? They seem to be much quieter than any others out there.

Nice to see BG1 npc's being restored though.

No, that is unfortunately not possible.

Echon is right: unfortunately, it is not possible to recreate the flaming effect.

Xan's average volume is the same as that of Aerie or Cernd - so, if you compare him with, say, Minsc, then yes, he will come as a quieter one. But if some lines in particular did not work for you - some of his select/confirm lines, or his banters - please, tell us, and we'll see what we can do for the next version. Adjusting the volume a little may help, too.

He is much quieter than other npcs for certain. I can only speak for his early dialogues and the selection/movement stuff, but it sounds a faint and unclear. I've kicked him out of the party before getting a chance to hear most of the content though- the voice and the new accent are a bit too far from Xan for my tastes.

I thought I could speak for the soundset volume, at least. But if it's the new voice that you do not like, it sounds like there is not much I can do.

I will keep an eye on the voice volume feedback - and thank you for reporting these issues.

The voice volume definitely needs a boost. You can barely hear him over the loud as all heck standard BG2 music.

...I'm not the only one who misses the old voice, am I?

Oh my God, Xan's original VA is so good. But, of course, you can't have the sun and the moon and the stars and the oceans. Some things just aren't possible.
Imbriglicated!

Who is Mr Bennett? :)
Well, all blame lies on Interplay, here. Or at least half of it.

I'll see what I can do about the volume, thanks.

Having gone back and looked over the old flaming sword image from BG1, it was no where near as impressive as I remembered. It would actually be possible to port it to BG2, It just be a lot of work.
Now, at last, the masks had fallen away.  The strings of the puppets had become visible, and the hands of the prime mover exposed.  Most ironic of all was the last gift that Raziel had given me, more powerful than the sword that now held his soul, more acute even than the vision his sacrifice had accorded me - the first bitter taste of that terrible illusion:  Hope.

Which is why so many people have tried and failed gloriously...

I believe the problem is that it's missing some of the diagonal animations or something, so in order to port it you'd have to make those missing animations.

Saying it is possible is sort of pointless. Since I entered the modding community people have been repeating that yes, it can be done but we have not got a Flaming Sword In BG2 mod yet and is it going to happen? No.
