I liked Borsook. He was so unjudging, slow to anger, reluctant to hold a grudge or say something unneccessarily hurtful. The kind of person who lifts the tone of the whole show, and is a shining example for all. His deeply held feelings of respect for others have obviously made it difficult to navigate the sea of the Net, where ettiquette is such a loose term.

If you could modify your joy post a little, that would show concern for the feelings of those of us who mourn his silence. Even though you don't. Maybe just a lips sealed icon, to indicate your feelings are not in agreement. That would still allow for expression of your feelings, without leading to an emergency meeting of the Borsook Fan Club.

No, I won't edit my post. I don't want to. I really believed he was as you described, but sadly it's not true, as I had to experience on my own body.

I'm going to say that I think making a thread about something like this is...gay. There's no reason to drag it out for all of us to see. He could have just PM'd a few particular people or whatever. This thread screams of attention-seeking,

Exactly my sentiments.

Did it have to do with the word "ribbed"?

It's too late at night for me to get any jokes, sorry.

Please note that I take my knowledge out of an extended RL meeting, not only over the net, as you do, thus my judgement might be slightly more realistic.

Just one meeting? I usually need a few more than that before I know a person well.
I guess what we have here is the usual question of the accuracy of perceptions. You describe your perception of Borsook, and I describe mine. We might both be deceived, we might both be right. Or only one of us is right. If you are right, Borsook is an evil, duplicitious, schemer who has fled from righteous denunciation. If I am right, Borsook is a very nice fellow who made a mistake and then felt very ashamed of himself and left in despair.

But you essentially have no ground to stand on because it seems that the nature of her relationship was more involved than yours was/is with him. And also this is really not our business. I will not comment on Borsook's character because I do not know him, but making this thread was an entirely shitty decision. It shows no respect to Evaine.

Having read Evaine's comments very carefully, I'd be inclined to let the subject drop.

We had extended contact over some months and the meeting was fairly long, too, so I think I can be so bold as to form an opinion about him.

We'll vote on it at the next Borsook Fan Club meeting.

Sorry, but you're wrong. He assured me today in a very unmistakable way that he was neither ashamed nor desperate. I don't want to explain here why he wanted to leave and what he did, but it was not because of what you call a "mistake" here, as he went long before I pointed it out to him. Until this weekend he wasn't even aware of his "mistake", which shows quite some ignorance.

Also, I didn't say anything about his being evil or duplicitous, I just said that your ideas of him are not very accurate.

Evaine, I don't want to argue with you. Especially as I am now worried you are going to tell me Borsook beats his mother, or eats babies, or something equally distressing, and I don't know how that will work in with "ribbed". I would like to point out again that this is about perceptions, how we see things, and it is possible for a person to be perceived in many different ways. You are more than welcome to think you are right. But acknowledging the possibility that other interpretations exist is polite.

Maybe you should just drop it and leave it between the two of them as Borsook should have?

I don't see a reason why I would tell you what happened. I had bad experiences with my being overly polite, so I dropped it completely, but even if I were polite, I would still say that some things people do cut down the range of perception massively.

It would be fairer if you discussed it when Borsook was around to put his side if the story. Since he isn't, we should probably finish this discussion.

Boys, we're done. In fact, we were done hours ago. Complain, if you want, but it does open you to the charge of digging up old dead issues. Now Ghrey has some excuse for turning up when the party's over - time zones and all, but Vel, really, no excuse at all.

You're spoiling my non-insomniac perception of you, Vel. If you now suggest that you aren't wearing a bear costume, or you aren't really on the NZ Olympic curling team, my illusions will be completely crushed!  :'(

@ED - What does the below quote mean? Is it a typo? Or is it a literal English translation of a German expression akin to the Arab saying, "I have seen with my own eyes," which if I understand the phrase correctly, is used to punctuate the veracity of a statement.

Quote
... as I had to experience on my own body.

Two other questions, one, did Borsook look like a mad Rasputin? Two, was this your first meeting with an internet acquaintance?

I was "talking" with a forum member and they had also met with an internet friend -- had a very pleasant time -- and while I have no plans to meet with anyone from the 'net, I do find it interesting when people meet with strangers. Just curious.

Of the three internet meetings that I know of, two thirds have been nice experiences. Sadly, this one sounds like it was very disappointing.

No, not a typo (though the preposition is probably wrong :) ). It is indeed a translation of a German expression, but it has some other background here as well.

One, the hairstyle was kinda similar, yes.
Two, no, I've met with plenty of internet friends before and I had a very good time with almost all of them. It's a little difficult for me in the beginning, but normally it turns out ok after a drink or two. :)

Actually, I discussed it with him, but he didn't want to talk about it any further and it was his idea not to come here so often anymore. Not my fault.

Everyone is responsible for what they put up for the world to see. I understand that you are disillusioned and upset, and I would be too.  But I feel very uncomfortable discussing this after Borsook has gone.

Ghrey and Vel, don't either of you say a word.

And yet it was you who chose to carry on this discussion even until now.
