The Salk Report (aka, Progress)
« on: January 15, 2006, 12:02:01 PM »
While it's true I haven't worked on this mod much recently, I did want to state that, no, it's not dead.  That being said, however, I likely won't do much work on it for a short while until the current Tutu/BGT situation comes to some kind of resolution.  Hopefully it can be resolved to everyone's benefit, merging the projects into something everyone can use, and at that time I will evaluate the project and see what still needs to be done and how it needs to be coded.

Please feel free, however, to post ideas or any other things that you think are unfinished.

I thank you sincerely for this post, Icelus. BG1 Unfinished Business is not a great, but a very great project and I want you, who are the leader, to be the most comfortable with its release.

I, in my ignorance, would like to ask you this: if you one day would release this Mod for BG1/TotSC and/or TuTu, would you think that porting it to the BGT/TuTu merger might cause any kind of problem ?

It seems to me, but it's just my personal sensation, that we are dealing here with very intelligent people who can deliver the Baldur's Gate Ultimacy (like I like to call the merger) in such a way that Mods for TuTu and BGT in WeiDu format will be perfectly compatible.

All this to mean that perhaps it's not necessay to postpone your project to wait...But as I said, I want you to feel the most comfortable with it. It's the right of every modder! And thanks again!  ;)

Hey Icelus,

I don't know how others feel, but I really like BG1 (and BG2) in most of it's original format (not BGT or TuTu).  I also enjoy playing as complete/expanded a version as I can with all the current fixes and mods.  So having said that... I am really looking forward to you finishing BG1: Unfinished Business (hopefully soon)!! :)

Thank you,
LoneRogue

That does kind of suggest he doesn't know and it won't be for a while.

Hey Grim,

Thanks for pointing out the obvious.  I was just looking for a down-the-road time frame... like next month, next six months, or even next year is all.

I can't give a definite timeframe, or else I would have in the first post.  It won't be next year.  Six months or less would be closest I'd care to estimate.

Why not make it a tuesday in the not so distant future?

Someone's muse must be lost and it wandered into my apartment.

For now, I'm going to work strictly off of BG1+TotSC.  I am not ready to say that this will be a "Tutu" mod.

If things progress to the point that I'm ready to release something, I'll assess the Tutu/BGT situation and decide which way to head.  At the very least, a vanilla BG1 version will be posted for violent dissemination.

If the Tutu/BGT merger situation is dead/at an impasse, I will prepare a Tutu release.

If the Tutu/BGT merger is complete or at least well underway, I will prepare a version that will be compatible with the merged conversion project, but not release it until the conversion project itself is made public.

So, without using the word "if" one more time, that is the status at this time.  Tomorrow might be different.  See there--"might" is different than "if."  :)

Thanks to devSin, we've gotten quite a bit done today.  I will say, however, that the vast majority of today's work falls in the vein of bugfixes, not new content.  But, something's better than nothing.  :)

Icelus,

Bugfixing is more important (for me, at least) than new content. So congratulations to you, guys!

P.S. But to integrate Idobek's BG1 Fixes in UB would be such a stupid idea ?  ;)

Thanks to devSin, the Ice Island has been completely restored and touched up.

As for Idobek's fixes--I need to talk with Mr. Bek and see how we can proceed.  I'm not sure what his overall progress is on the Fixpack.  If it's fairly close to release, I will probably donate/remove some of the stuff from UB so that it can stay with the Fixpack.  He may also have some material that can be transferred from the Fixpack to UB.  Going over the current Fixpack code is on my "to do" list.

Oh The Salk Report sounds so much nicer than a simple Progress topic...  Keep it up and thanks for your updates!  :P Please let us all know (well me at least) about your chat with Mr. Idobek and his Fixpack for a free beer!  ;D

Thanks to Ascension64, three components from BGT-Tweaks will be included in BG1UB.  They are:
1) "Eldoth Reminds of Skie's Ransom"
2) "Angelo Notices Shar-teel"
3) "Finishable Kagain Caravan Quest"

I've made a lot of corrections and restorations re: stores, taverns, inns and their respective merchants/barkeeps.  I have also run CamDawg's Creature Inventory Checker utility and made a few corrections to creature inventories.

This should almost complete the bugfixing aspects of UB, and the focus of development will shift more toward new content.
