You're a PPG addict. Hello and welcome. I'm working on getting myself addicted so I can join the meetings, too.
Ah, the eternal question of post counts. Sadly, on the net a 350 post count probably counts for nothing unless you were able to run up the count in a week. I recall a recent forum member, at another forum, who posted something close to 2000 posts over a period of two months, and not short posts or posts comprised of emoticons, but impassioned monologues that went on for pages. I was astonished and somewhat awestruck when I noticed the count but when I mentioned it in IRC (
) my remark caused no comment.
Perhaps it recalled to the IRC members fond days of their tweendom when they acquired their first ear on Diablo online, or perhaps their face burned with painful recollection of their first feeble forays into the world of forums or IRC and the painful shrieks of "NEWBIE!" that greeted their rudimentary attempts at 'net communication? Or perhaps it even recalled their first truimphant hacking of their parents back account that lead to that healthy off-shore account that all denizens of IRC have? Or perhaps they thought a 2000 post count in a period of two months was simply amateur work?
At 350 posts I feel no need for an intervention or membership in a self-help group yet.
I guess it's not a high post count that makes you get an invitation, but a high activity (and valuable contribution) in IRC.
IRC would be great except for two little problems, lack of anonymity (for most of us) and of course there is always some damn little archivist (human or otherwise) that logs every damn thing that is said. The best aspect of IRC is that it can be very funny.
My biggest concern about my life on the net is the temptation to rudeness, or perhaps I fear my inevitable(?) decline to rudeness. I actually felt compelled to apologize recently for a mocking post I made about another poster's lack of satirical ability. On the one hand, I find the pedantic bitcheries of the internet amusing, on the other hand I am not a great believer in intentional rudeness, it has always struck me that intentional rudeness in RL is a sign of a tedious and insecure personality.
