If we're gonna include men here then we have to go with Andrew McCarthy. Come on, I wasn't the only one who liked him as Blane in Pretty In Pink?!

Or my personal fav, Val Kilmer as Chris, in Real Genius. Nerds can be hawt.  :D

I loved that movie. Loved. Loved.

John Cusack is national treasure.

Matt Damon - regrettably, I look at him more as an actor, with none of the girlish crushes of John Cusack or George Clooney. Shameful, isn't it? But I don't disapprove of Matt Damon. I'm, like, neutral.

I can say with great certainty that I never found Tom Cruise appealing. I remember my girlfiends mooning over "Legend," and being the spoilsport by pointing out his big nose. I remember avoiding "Top Gun" while it was in theaters out of protest that the soundtrack had made Berlin mainstream pop. I eventually saw it on video at a friend's house. At least that movie had enough Val Kilmer to keep me from falling asleep.

P.S. Since I was thinking of "Legend," this naturally made me think of "Labrinyth." I know Red feels the same way. David Bowie. David Bowie is a fabulous, fabulous... person. :D

David Bowie - Labyrinth - Stunning

:D ! Except for the tights. Let us not mention the tights (except to say not to mention them).

I always wanted to be the girl in that movie when she wore that ballgown. It was so pretty!

At least no one has wanted to be a) Jennifer Gray in Dirty Dancing and b) admits to fancing Patrick Swayze.

Val Kilmer was the guy you take home to upset your Mother
Matt Damon was the guy your Mother would approve of
John Cusack was the guy you wouldn't take home to meet your Mother, not since that time you took your first boyfriend home to meet your mother and he got a crush on her. (I concede it may have issues, and deep emotional scars)

Whawha? You didn't like pirate-Jareth in tights with the sword? That was good stuff!

Jareth: Sarah, beware. I have been generous up until now, but I can be cruel.
Sarah: Generous? What have you done that's generous?
Jareth: Everything! Everything that you wanted, I have done. You asked that the child be taken. I took him. You cowered before me. I was frightening. I have reordered time. I have turned the world upside-down. And I have done it all for you. I'm exhausted from living up to your expectations of me. Now, isn't that generous?

Innocent?

Anyway, I don't care what it means if David Bowie is saying it. My God, what a sexy, sexy man. His growly, "oooh, look at me -- I'm being seductive" voice is just too much.

But, umm, as far as the original topic goes -- I was a) too young for any of those movies/cultural phenomena and b) in Korea until '89. So . . . yeah. I just wanted to defend the hot-manliness of David Bowie as Jareth in tights.

It did not occur to me that anyone would disapprove of Matt Damon - mainly because he seems to put a bit of effort into being an actor rather than a superstar. I admit to being thunderstruck that an anti-Matt faction exists in the world. That nasally accent from Good Will, the sweating tension in The Bourne Identity - come on, so good.

I loved David Bowie in the Labyrinth - until we got the long shot of him in the tights. Then I couldn't take him seriously as an evil person after that. I admired the boy who played the hero enormously and did not mind the big nose. I was vastly disappointed when he got his teeth straightened and cut his hair and turned into Tom Cruise. The black dress or the light one, cliffette? Both were pretty good.

Jyz, in my experience it has been code for "love me, fear me, do as I say, and you will be my slave, and I will never worry if you are enjoying yourself during the laying".
Val Kilmer and Pat Swayzee - too many muscles.

Are you talking about the baby? Was Tom Cruise in the Labyrinth? Say it isn't so!

The scene where they dance, before she breaks the mirror there, couldn't have been any more perfect.. Jennifer talks in the interviews on the DVD about how she idolizes David Bowie and how amazing it was to do those sorts of things with him. I'm so jealous.

Well true, David Bowie in Pirate Pants is ummm... well... yeah okay he could park his boots under my bed anytime. :P

I knew you'd see it my way. Pirate Jareth. Mmmm.

There's outtakes on the DVD, too -- where the guy who is playing Jareth's hands during the scenes with the crystal balls keeps dropping the balls on the floors and making mistakes. It cracks me up.

Daniel Day Lewis. Full stop. I didn't want to bring him up as I don't really connect him with big hair, but now we're talking about him, please note my ringing endorsement.

jc, Matt isn't responsible for Ben, Hollywood is. Let's apportion the blame where it belongs. I don't care if you hate Matt, I'm just surprised. Now hating Ben - that's not surprising.

glain - too many muscles = Sylvester Stallone. Hence my concern.

Eral, I don't hate Matt Damon, I don't disparage his acting ability, I don't blame him for Ben Affleck (Personally, I think it commendable that Matt with all his talent took pity on his old friend Ben and allowed him to ride on his coattails, I mean sheesh, did you see his performance in Buffy the Vampire Slayer?) We're talking eye candy and personal taste here and Matt is just too clean cut and wholesome for one such as me.

We do agree on muscles - ergh. The only 6 pack I'm intersted in has Cooper's Pale Ale stamped on the side.

Tom Cruise is so short he is beneath my notice.
