There was a reason The Fridge was shut down.

Yeah I know the frequent refreshing got on Andyr's and Sim's nerves and thus they nagged the mods long enough to shut it down. Rastor then took some of the patrons and provided shelter in his forums. The claim was that all these nonsense threads where cluttering the forum and thus useful mod information was no longer available at a quick glance. Similarities to current events/threads are purely coincidental.

@Borsook: The Fridge used to be a hangout at FWS filled with all sorts of useless stuff to outsiders yet interesting nonsense for those who participated. It is superior to IRC in the regard that, if you actually followed a thread you could read up and answer instead of being on 24/7 to find out what that joke yesterday was about. So it was kind of non-exclusive, because all the info that made you a Fridge participant was available as long as the mods would not delete it....and there were pillow fights. ;) :D Some liked it, some, well, not so much.

If you look at the origins of the rash of recent topics you will notice that it is the mods who started these threads. The rest of us are just riffing off the original threads.

Or in other words...J'accuse Ice and JC, :P  and Sim was the one who started the whole drinking contest (yes, yet another moderator) idea.

Well, in my defense, the pedophilia thread was a legitimate mod-related question.  It just transformed into one of the great tragedies of 2005.

What good is a mod site that doesn't have a general discussion forum to blow off steam or post something that is not mod related. That's how people get to know each other since we are from all over the world. Their loss.

I was never in the loop regarding the shutting down of the Fridge. It was exclusively a Studios admin job.

I don't believe PPG has yet reached the stage where vaguely sensible (or amusing) talk is actually drowned out by threads like "smilie wars".

Hang on; let me just get this straight: We shouldn't post or answer to anything that isn't mod-related around here?
We aren't wearing down MY bankaccount by chitchatting, for sure; so just tell it like it is, mate.

But in case FYI was supposed to really signify information coming my way, I'll give you the feedback, that I have yet to read something here, in this thread, to make me feel informed.
Thank you.

It's kinda traditional that from time to time we all have a good moan about how awful everything is then carry on participating just the same because nobody actually cares THAT much. While I think the "useless poll question" is getting a bit old now, we probably won't be indulging in ritual bannings just yet.

Ah, ok. Tradition. Very well.
As long as it didn't mean anything.

Yes.  Chill out, plz.  No one ever said "mod-related only, mmmkay."  I'm simply exercising my right to voice my complaint about the intelligence level of some of the recent threads.

As a non-modder, (or at least not yet, I've got a lot to learn), can I just say that the non-mod related threads are a good way for players and idi... non-modders to feel like they have a place in the community. Plus they give us all a chance to have something resembling a personality online. Get a Life?...No thanks, I've already got one.

If we promise to make it an intelligent and mod-related one, can we? Can we, huh? Please? Go on, pleeease?
We might not quite reach the level of Intelligent -it's a challenge- but we'd definitely be able to do Quirky and Amusing.

Well, in our defense, the pedophilia thread was answered, initially, legitimately before it was "transformed into one of the great tragedies of 2005."  :-[

I was also not involved, besides later on agreeng that closing General Revelry was a good idea.

What led to the decision to close GenRev? Was it too expensive, too time consuming for moderators, too off-topic or all those reasons combined?

Just a general question re: websites, what is good and what is bad? Refreshing is bad but hits are good? Are hits only good if done thru a search engine or are hits equally good if they come from favorites? A large membership is good, but members posting actively and viewing topics are bad? Is hitting the preview button bad? Or is the only bad button (when asking stupid questions) the post button?

Posting stuff that irritates people is "bad".  Of course, what is bad to some is good to others, so it's basically all arbitrary.  Sometimes what's bad becomes Bad when it irritates someone with blue stars below their name.  Of course, we blue-starred folks have to have a measure of self-restraint and not go apeshit with locking and deleting and stuff because as irritable and human as we are, we usually realise something or other that makes us not lock stuff because of free speech or something, which is the point I'm trying to make.

So anyways, in conclusion, keep blathering, but I'll remind you that this is First Class.  We don't allow any riff-raff blatherers in here, y'see.  That's what makes us stand out from The Fridge/General Revelry/Church of Despair.

Edit: Oh, I just had a theory.  I think the type of random fluffy type of person that enjoys pillow fight threads is also the type that hates people having an interesting and/or constructive argument, or swearing, so by being mature and respecting other people's opinions and swearing a whole fucking lot, we can keep such undesirables out of town without actually imposing any sort of apartheid.  It's all about voluntary banishment.

I think I'm offended! I was only joking about the pillow fight. I'm a big fan of interesting and/or constructive arguments, I am reasonably mature, extremely tolerant, can swear like a trooper AND I'm also a fan of random fluffyness. A good, occasional, meaningless drivel is good for the soul.

Ohhh! And may I say, bloody typical, the bouncers always let the hot ones in, even when they wear thongs (The footwear, not the underwear)
