Killing Amalas

(1/2) > >>

fcm:
My pally Gunnar (*grunt*GUNNAR! so Scandanavian it hurts) just killed Amalas, the loudmouth ruffian at the Copper Coronet, and yet nothing happened. Honestly, I think that slaying someone in an arena brawl just because they called you "fancypants" should have some sort of reprocussion other than Aerie asking whether it was really necessary to kill him. The thing is, maybe this sort of would only be appropriate for LG character, is there a way to have allignment/class-based Virtue changes? That would be a magnificent way to force one to roleplay a little more carefuly, in my opinion.

But I really don't know anything about coding or how something like that would be implimented, so . . . yeah. It's probably already been suggested anyway.

I still think that killing Amalas isn't an appropriate response to the situation and should probably have a virtue drop associated with it. After all, it's not okay to kill the child that says that elves have the clap if the PC is an elf . . . or most of the other instigative minor characters in the game.

I think the death issue is due to the fact that BioWare (or, indeed, just about anybody else) wanted to go to the trouble of giving half the people in the game MINHP1 items and coding scripts so that they surrender when you've beaten them. It's much easier to just let them die and be done with it. I mean, take a look at how crime is dealt with in the city: Nobody is thrown in jail, nobody has to pay fines, nobody has to do community service, it's more like "You have been found guilty of pickpocketing! The penalty is death!"

By the way, the girl doesn't know what she's talking about, she's just repeating what somebody else said.

fcm:
I know about the girl, I just thought she was funny. There are other NPCs that have insulting things to say as well. The thing is that effectively, CHARNAME starts the fight, or at least, doesn't make the effort to end the conversation and kills Amalas -- his friends even have reactions, "You killed Amalas! What am I going to tell my mom?" etc, that lead me to believe that these are just novice brats who don't really know what they're doing. Almalas is not like Corvale (is that his name?) who stands outside the CC with the dwarf, insults you, and automatically attacks you no matter what you say.

The whole Amalas situation makes me think that my massive, 20 year-old spawn-of-Bhaal paladin just slayed a trash-talking 17 year old for the hell of it, with no restriant whatsoever. It's one of the few situations where you actually have the choice whether or not to kill someone because of an insult and I just think it should have some sort of broader consequences other than getting XPs and making Aerie sad.

On a related note, doesn't Mazzy try to fight him? I've never played with her . . . but what's that all about?

Bex:
Mazzy has an arena fight, but it's with Gorf the Squisher, a half-ogre (?). He accosts her outside the CC and she challenges him to a duel, after much provocation, including Gorf attacking a commoner to demonstrate how big and powerful he is.

(Which reminds me, Sim should implement a virtue penalty if you follow the cheating path in this quest.)

OH. Okay. I got confused, then.

Paladins definitely shouldn't be allowed to kill Amalas.
