Your Own Private Idaho
« on: April 23, 2005, 03:50:42 PM »
So Icelus and I think that the next step in PPG's growth is to own a little tropical retreat for it's exclusive members.

Here's our #1 choice...    http://www.vladi-private-islands.de/sales_islands/sites/09_wavi_1.html

Sure it needs a a few more rooms but an application for the subdivision of 21 oceanfront lots on Wavi has been submitted to the Fiji Islands government.  When that gets approved we'll build a few grass huts for our PPG Family and their guests.

It has been raised that all profits from the sale of PPG gear will be put towards the purchase of this *little slice of tropical heaven*...

All in favor... say "Arrrgh........."  :pirate

(ok, so I'm bored... sue me.  :P I still think it's an awesome idea.  :D

I'm all for it.  Except I don't do too well in extreme heat, so we're going to have to install some sort of weather machine to cool it down when I get tired of the heat.

Are there any busy sea trade routes nearby?  I don't want a long commute to work.

Hey! That's not Idaho!  :D

Alas, stick some hungry sharks and jellyfish in the water, and this concept of huts on a tropical island starts to eerily resemble my vision of the "Papilion" modding community.
Newt had always suspected that people who regularly used the word "community" were using it in a very specific sense that excluded him and everyone he knew.

I'll weigh in with a resounding "Arrrgh!" in favor of spending JC's money on this island.

Will an automatic icemaker do the trick?  ;)

Hey... it's called a retreat for a reason. Besides, aren't pirate kings suppose to have lackies doing the work so they can live off the spoils of other's hard labor?  I thought for sure I read that in the handbook somewhere.... :pirate

We might need to put the kibosh on the ring road and the bridge. I would hate for us to buy our tropical island and then find it was actually a suburb. Everyone would have to agree to grass huts only.
What are the implications for computer set-ups? Laptops only?

Yes, Fiji is near major shipping routes, plus large sea-liners are constantly going there, full of rich tourists with new cameras. So Ghrey will be able to keep an eye on his lackeys and keep his hand in. I'm with him on the airconditioning...but perhaps grass huts don't support air-conditioning. Will the ice-maker be a very large one?

"Papilion" modding community.

I think we need an explanation on what this is.  Or at least I do.

I'll weigh in with a resounding "Arrrgh!" in favor of spending JC's money on this island.

No, no, you don't understand.  It's the fans of the mods that will be paying for us to move there.  Start saving, buddy.  No splurging on guiness.  It's bargain beer for you.  Lucky Lager is awful (ly cheap) I hear.

I'm all for it. Except I don't do too well in extreme heat, so we're going to have to install some sort of weather machine to cool it down when I get tired of the heat.

I suppose it'll do as a temporary measure while we amass enough booty tokens to pay for the actual weather machine.

Sort of, but the whole basis behind being a pirate is plundering for fun and profit.  Not just profit.

I would hate for us to buy our tropical island and then find it was actually a suburb.
But all yuppies these days have SUVs, don't they?  Presumably they're amphibious, so I think we'd have to settle for a fleet of ships guarding the canal.

Good, I could use a camera.  And some grain and mangoes.  Sweeet.

"Papilion" modding community.

I think we need an explanation on what this is.  Or at least I do.

The idea came to me when I watched the movie "Papillon" with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman while working on Finch. It's based on the concept that if the crack team of PPG modders were confined to an unescapable island prison in the French colonies, then forced to wear comfy pajamas and get butterfly tattoos, we might get more actual mod work done. Unless, you know, there was an open bar.

Newt had always suspected that people who regularly used the word "community" were using it in a very specific sense that excluded him and everyone he knew.

Hmm, I brew beer.  (And very good beer, at that!)  Perhaps I'd best avoid this island...?

Productive, yes, but didn't Sim make Quest Pack while MUI (Modding Under the Influence)?  :D

If we have access to a brewmeister, then Xiao should be invited to the island mod release parties.

Does this mean that irenicus , Dosh and my humble self get the entire forum to ourselves while you are munching on box-jellyfish, working the treadmills for energy and frolick naked under the palmtrees?

Papillon for modders? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070511/ What happened to the good old quickie trade-off?

Indeed... but there are tons of trees.  :)

As for yuppies and their SUVs...  I'll take the 3-bedroom, 2.5 bathroom villa with a horizon-edge swimming pool looking out over the sea since everyone else is opting for grass huts..

Hey, Ghrey... what exactly is a 'booty token' anyway?  ;)

'2.5 bathrooms' sounds like something might be leaking. I had enough grass huts during my camping stints with the boy scouts. so I might also opt for some of the nicer accomodations.

Cause I'm not sure if you really don't know exactly what 2.5 baths are... I'll explain.  ;)

Full bath or (1) is a room with a toilet, sink, shower and bathtub
Three quarters or (3/4) is a room with a toilet, sink and usually shower/or bathtub not both
Half-bath or (.5) is just a toilet and a sink

I could probably build more if needed on the island, I've put in a 3/4 before starting with the bare studs.  Course I might need some help with the electrical work never been real handy in that area.  :)

If you are the only one with decent accomodation expect a lot of the grass-hut-dwellers to pay you a visit oh so often. ;)

Not as permanent staff?  I can't say I understand your logic.

I have to agree with Ghrey on the heat thing - sunburn is bad. :'(

Indeed... but there are tons of trees. :)

Yes, but do the trees blow cool air on you?  I don't want to hear a weather report where it's 30 degrees in the shade (that's in real measurement, not Yankometric).

Hey, no, I don't ever recall saying anything about living in a grass hut.  Something to keep the rain, bugs, wind, and bug-reporters out is what I need.

And what's with all the turnips?
Why do they eat so much root vegetables, anyway?

I assumed the villa would be jc's. Overlords definitely don't live in grass huts.

"Grass hut" would be an architectural style only. I aint living without plumbing or flyscreens. Way too old for that.
I think we might acclimate after a while, and not need airconditioning. Also, we could make sure the bars are all airconditioned. Or else we could have evaporative cooling, as a compromise.
I am keen to maintain our lifestyle, once we acquire it. Too much more global warming and our island will be under two feet of water.

So Xiao is making the beer. Glain will be in charge of construction. Who's doing the cooking?
