Well, Myst fans can rejoice. Myst IV: End of Ages has been announced, and it's supposed to pick up right at the end of the original Myst, where your job is to restore the D'ni civilization. Could be cool.
As for soundtracks that stick in your head,
The 7th Guest and
The 11th Hour stick out as two of the best soundtracks ever made. My good buddy George "The Fat Man" Sanger is the composer of this, and several hundred other video game scores. I so loved the soundtracks, that I bought "7/11" which is the combined soundtracks for both games.
The 7th Guest was groundbreaking in a lot of ways, but for all the accolades the game had, the soundtrack is the thing that shines above and beyond anything else.
If you want a list of the Fat Man's credits, try this link:
http://www.fatman.com/faqs.htmIt has only a partial list of games that he's composed music for, and some of them you guys and gals will go, "He did THAT!?"
If you want to listen to some more stuff that isn't available on his personal site go here:
http://www.gamasutra.com/galleries/audio/george_sanger/Now you all will have to register to access the page, but if you want to keep your finger on the industry pulse, Gamasutra is a great site for that.
Anyway, track down an old copy of The 7th Guest and/or The 11th Hour. That music is great, has a rock/rockabilly feel to it, and trust me: ingame, it was creepy. Really good ambient music for the office...I'm listening to it right now, in fact.
And if you want to buy Fat's CDs, try:
http://www.texasmusicroundup.comAnd give a listen to Elizabeth McQueen and the Firebrands while you're at it. 80s covers with a touch of country. Some are better than the originals.
St. Jo will vouch for me on these, won't you?
Anywho. Take it as you will. I think George is a great composer, but and even greater person. Very personable, and gracious. Gives greaet advice about what pro audio eq to buy. Thanks, Fat!
