He sure moves around a lot... When we discussed it first, it was next to Mazzy's cell... When I alpha-tested it, it was next to Garren's child... Now in the undead room, and finally near the unopenable door?  ;D

Gorje quest is broken
« Reply #26 on: July 17, 2004, 08:30:56 PM »
OK well I found Gorje, and he said he was off to find his brother. OK, so i go back to the coronet, and Unger says something like "haargh weell me brother has returned hrrrgh" or whatever. OK well...That's it. No Illithium. what's the deal?

Did Gorje really die when crossing the letters in the dungeon? I saw him disappear but no death message.

Disclaimer: I didn't write this quest, but looked through the code to get the answer, so hopefully this will work!

Was there more to the conversation? Gorje should have been there to carry on talking after Ungar says his brother is back. If he wasn't, try walking around til you see both dwarves. If he's still not around, try setting this global- Global("UBGorjeCC","GLOBAL",1). Make sure you can see both dwarves. They'll talk abit, then you can carry on the quest. You don't get the illithium from them, by the way. :)

This will probably be moved to the bug report section in a day or two.

I looked around for another dwarf, nowhere to be seen. I just used shadowkeeper to give myself the ore.

No dwarf... that would be a bug.

Ok, with Gorje spawned in and both dwarves there, SetGlobal("FindGorje","GLOBAL",2), make sure Global("TalkedToGorje","GLOBAL") is not at 0, and with luck they should carry on a conversation. Click on Ungar to talk to him if they don't start talking by themselves!

Illithium Quest a Bust
« Reply #30 on: September 01, 2004, 05:32:58 AM »
Talked to Gorje. No Illithium.
Said he shipped it off to his brother.
Then he went and got hisself burnt to a crisp on the tiles.
Wut an orc-brain!
So we went and talked to Ungar. He won't talk.
So ... no Illithium!
Looks like I'm out a thousand gps, and ... NO Illithium!
Now I've seen some dumbass quests in my day,
but this UB one takes the cake!
So where's my guddamn Illithium ?!
Hey? Huh? Hey? Where?
That's what I'd like to know! :(

If Gorje dies, you're pretty much screwed. Go back to Unger in the Copper Coronet, and spawn his brother manually (GORJE.CRE) via the console.

Yeah you pretty much need Gorje alive, but odd that he got burnt to a crisp....i just played it now and nothing happened to him on the tiles (i'm assuming you mean the ones that spell out "Amanautor")

Like barren said you could spawn him in the Copper Coronet next to Unger via CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("gorje") i believe.  :)

Well, that didn't work either (syntax error).
But I did eventually figure out that the quest will go forward IF
(and only if) Gorje doesn't die while leaving across the tiles.
So I just replayed the conversation with him (4 or 5 times yet)
until he finally makes it out of the ruins alive.
A great big WHEW! is in order here, I think.
In any case, I finally got my illithium. Yahoo! :)
.
So the problem was a combination of a slight design flaw
and a really dumb newbie player. Heh.
.
But I still have a couple of questions pertaining to this odd
illithium business. Firstly, how come it takes 200 lbs of
illithium to coat a mace? And secondly, where oh where
can I find this Mace of Disruption anyway?

The dwarf (whose name escapes me at present) probably siphons the remaining Illithium into his retirement fund.    :pirate

The mace can be found in.... (Oooh, Spoiler)

Hmm, Gorje didnt die for me on the tiles...

A simple solution for this, since I guess it does happen, would be to simply give him immunity to fire. It is fire damage right? Not magic fire or something that looks like a column of fire but really isnt?

@Cybrwurn: GORJE.CRE was his creature file's name, not the actual console command. The correct console command was as mcruz said.

Don't know why he does for me. I only have two mods installed:
UB and the Quest Pack. Maybe the combination of those two is
responsible?

I think that the tiles are rigged to the Flame Strike spell;
at least that's what it looks like.

Gorje is not compatible with Tactics, and this problem should be solved if you install v13.

I had the problem of Gorje not appearing with extra merchants installed.
I found him on the map though, he was in a cell near the beastmaster.
Cause - Corrupt Script?  :-\

The beastmaster?  Gorje only appears in the Shadow Temple.  If you installed the non-Ease of Use version of the Bonus Merchants (i.e., copied files directly to your override folder), then, yes... that will screw up his eventual spawning in the Copper Coronet.  Not a corrupt script--a corrupt installation.

Yes, precisely, near the "wall of shadows" that can't be dispelled because you don't have the gem, forcing the party to lake the long way around a shallow lava pool.

No matter which side of the door you put him on, he brings a bit of life into what would otherwise be a dull dead end, and when he runs off, he's got enough time to disappear before that long hallway will take him anywhere near a Pit Fiend, or Bone Golem, or some nasty lava, or boobytrapped tiles.

Not to mention that a long, dark, narrow hallway looks a bit more like the interior of an illithium mine than does either of the 2 rooms where he was previously.

One more move should do it.

Were you given the quest to find him?

Did you install UB after beginning the quest?

The dungar in the copper cornet gave me the quest.

I installed UF with  other BG2 mods before i played anything. I didn't install too many, so i don't think there are any mod conflicts.

mabye i'm not looking in the right spot? is there a specific map/location to where he's at?

 Thanks

There's a known issue with Version 13 and the "Tougher Demons" component of Tactics: Tougher Demons means all Liches will summon a Pit Fiend, which will kill anything they can see except themselves and the Lich....and the outcome of a fight between Gorje Hilldark and an Improved Pit Fiend isn't exactly all that doubtful. This is fixed (by moving Gorje to a safer location) in the latest versoin of UB, which either has or has not been released yet.

Solutions:
1) Go to the Temple Ruins when you're low-level, so that no Liches will appear at all (unless you've got Always Toughest Random Spawns installed)
2) Accept Unger's quest to look for Gorje AFTER you've already cleared the Ruins, or at least the room by the laval floor
3) Uninstall Tougher Demons before you go down into the Temple Ruins, and reinstall afterwards if you wish
4) Cheat Gorje back where he should have been with CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("gorje")

I don't the have Tactics mod installed, so that can't be glitching it

The spawn cheat sounds like it will work, though. I'll have to try it later.

Does anyone else know of why Gorje didn't spawn

Did you actually go to the right place? He's in the cell next to the shadow who wants you to carry it back across the lava, on the north side of the lava pit.
