SMACK TALK 7
« on: March 06, 2005, 11:53:17 AM »
YOU ARE ALL GOING DOWN.

INCLUDING the judges.

AND the fans and wellwishers.

Oh, oh!  AND the naysayers and fuddy-duddies.

All of you.  Down.  By me.  Will be taken.

YOU'D STILL BE MAKING ITEMS IF IT WASN'T FOR ME, MR. "IRONFIST."

You'll be walking the plank on the end of your own cutlass after you... uh... beat me?

I'm trying to put a bold face on the fact that most people know how to make Iron Mods better than I do, having, like, done it before. :)

I will give it until 9:00 to think of ideas, then make the SimDing0 NPC.

I have been here since 7.

FILE'D.

May I just say that despite the fact that the audio clips all over the place, and the dialogue doesn't actually process the quest correctly... it's... um... it's done.

What can I say.  You bribe and threaten and blackmail and extort, and what does it get you?  Two first place votes, and a loss.

Ah well, it was fun, as Iron Modding always is.

Now, for the Tutu Iron Mod I neglected to pass on the hat to Domi, which I'm betting brought me bad luck this time 'round.  So to avoid further angering of the gods, I bring you... Iron Compton.

So invariably there were bits that had to be cut short or weren't working right.  What would everyone have changed in their mod, this go around?

I was thinking of adding some sort of Haer'dalis, Jaheira, and Korgan discussion about the merits of going down in a Blaze of Glory, right after the Domo reported the victory.  Not too original or innovative or any of that, but it'd be content, and content's always good.

I used up just about every last second, so I can't really say that I "should" have done any of these things. I did absolutely as much as I could, once I got a workable idea, which took about a half-hour and a glass of cranberry juice.

- Giving Katie more than 15 seconds worth of acting coaching would have been better.
- Probably true for me, too.
- I had wanted to put the PC up against impossible odds, but I realized that was pretty much beyond my capabilities.
- Then I wanted to put someone else up against impossible odds, and came to the same conclusion.
- Then I wanted to depict someone in a big whirlwind fight who would eventually succumb... I opened up the Irenicus promenade cutscenes to steal from those, but I realized that that was going to be too hard to get right in the allotted time.
- I wanted to flesh out the dialogue some more and include interjections.
- I wanted to incorporate a timer, so that if you didn't give Fiona what she needed in time, the cambion would come and kick her ass and drag her away for another lifetime of torment.
- I wanted to change the way the quest coding works so that it's not so flaky, but, again, ran out of time.

I think a big mistake I made was going with my first idea, which was to somehow arrange for someone with a french accent to say... the pun, which I will not spoil.  All the other bits are just afterthoughts.

Gah! Juice! The secret weapon is not mine alone!

Congratulations, Jason!

Err, yah, everything that I didn't have time to do? But instantaneously I had my heart set on a joinable NPC, which is really insane to even consider in 4 hours. If a One Day is comparable to a quickie, this was a sloppy, wet kiss on the way out the door.  :-*

Congrats to all the participants. Kudos for the the charming prince who carried the day albeit a wicked Bon Jovi theme.

That was a close one indeed. Can we expect to at least see the hat for a while as your avatar, Jason?

Yes, and in fact that theme running through my head made it difficult to concentrate on coming up with a workable mod idea.

Sure. The banner Ghrey made, while cute and all, is actually too wide for the board settings, so I'll have to hack it down.
