When the Iron Tutu competition rolled around, I knew that I lacked the familiarity with BG1 that would hold up against the time constraints of the event, but I had the will to do something Tutuesque to celebrate the theme of the weekend. That weekend turned into a month, resulting in this little endeavor.

The Finch NPC mod Version 1 is made for BG1Tutu and includes:

- One neutral good, gnome cleric of Deneir. Finch comes with a bookbag, perfect for keeping those precious scrolls and volumes safe, and she wears glasses that allow her a burst of inspiration in identifying items. Also, she doesn't take the glasses off her head, because then she wouldn't be able to see, and that would be very bad for a would-be hero librarian.

- There is one NPC-related quest, because people like quests

- One custom portrait and a new soundset of dubious entertainment value. Some soundset lines change due to game events. Over 60 voiced lines!

- Content comprised of 2-4 banters with each of the Bioware NPCs, a few dozen interjections, and some PC-initialized talks!

Finch Bloomwhiffler is quick to enthuse about stories she has read, libraries she has visited and tomes that she has had the honor to copy, but for all her knowledge, Finch has never truly experienced a life of adventure outside the pages of a book until you encounter her. (You can meet Finch during the Prologue at Candlekeep before you depart with Gorion, and she is joinable in Beregost.) Finch wavers between trepidation and enthusiasm at each new turn, keeping her quill ever at the ready.

She is a hero, and she is a librarian! Check her out!

The mod is compatible with Tutu, BGT, BG:EE, and EET!

Bons, sorry I didn't get a chance to comment when you announced, but I *love* the idea of a gnome/librarian NPC! The picture is very cute...somehow her pointy little nose looks very gnome-like to me.

I don't have Tutu installed yet, but this may tip me over the edge. As I understand it, if I want to keep my current SOA/TOB install, I have to have another full installation of SOA to run Tutu. Is that correct?

Correct.  If you'll give me a second, I can dig out the instructions on creating multiple installs...

That is the very tutorial I used for my second install setup. It's always worked like a charm for me, and w/o using twice the hard drive. Joy!

Oh, I actually ought to mention one oddity about how Tutu deals with multiple installs.

For some reason or other, the dialog.tlk that is in the game where all the biffs are is the one that gets the text appended.  For instance, if you installed BG2 to games\bg2, and then made a copy of it in games\bgtutu (as I did), and kept all the biffs in the games\bg2 folder, all the new Tutu strings will be found in the games\bg2\dialog.tlk file.

How to avoid this:

Make a second installation as per the tutorial.
Ensure that you install Tutu to the first version of BG2 (that is, the one with the biffs in it).
Your second install should be fine, in regards to BG2 mods that have been installed on it, and playability.

Thank you, Bons.  Finch is a very well done NPC.  The voicing is really good.

I love Finch ... and I love Finch's voice.  Thanks so much for creating her.

I did a dumb thing, so...

I have uploaded Finch v1.2! It fixes a very unpretty dialogue looping bug that will kick in when you accomplish anything momentous in Finch's quest. Go get it! I really, really recommend a reinstall. Really. Please proceed in a calm, orderly fashion to get the latest Finch.

Thanks to shamrock_uk over at Ironworks for first bringing the problem to my attention.

Quick noob question - if I add Finch after all the other fix/tweak packs, is it going to create issues for existing save games (dialog.tlk, etc), or will everything still work fine?

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the bookbag.  It's good to see I'm not the only loser who likes to read all the books I come across.  ;)

One little thing I noticed is that when you get Finch as a level 1 character, she has +2 to her level 1 cleric spells.  When she levels up to 2, the level up screen says that she gained an additional level 1 spell.  However, this seems to override the +2 lvl 1 spells.  The result is that she actually loses one spell slot when she levels up to 2.

I believe the game would give Finch a +1 first level spell bonus because of her wisdom stat. Any more is accidental on my part, so I'll have to look at her CREs and see if I spot a discrepancy.

I like the bookbag also, you may want to check it's properties, it's great for carrying around extra things like say, ankheg shells, and bandit scalps  :o . Oh yeah it does hold books too and any papers(scrolls, notes etc.).  ;D

Very cute - love the soundset.  Question though, I've noticed that she moves quite quickly (even faster than Indira, who manages to leave most other characters in the dust), what is the best way to slow them down to an appropriate level?  Anyone else notice her rapid rate of movement??

Hmm, interesting.  I think you may have installed the Slower Walking Speeds component of Tutufix, then installed these two mods.  Try uninstalling the Walking Speeds component of Tutufix, letting everything re-install, then run setup-tutufix.exe again and run Walking Speeds again.

Guilty as charged as I installed an upgraded Indira (and Finch) after doing the Tutufix install.  Ah, this is what happens when so many new versions/mods come out and I can't be bothered to reinstall everything from scratch.  Yep, I'm a lazy SOB!   ::)

Thanks all!
