XP Rebalancing Experiences
« on: January 31, 2005, 08:49:48 AM »
If anyone's actually playing with this, I'd be interested to hear of your experiences with it. What percentage settings would you recommend for each component for a balanced game? Do ridiculously low percentages make for a fun challenging game? Things like that. :)

Hello Sim!

As soon as the newest TuTu version is out, I intend to play with this great Mod of yours lowering XP down to 25%!

I think it's the best to make the party not exceed the XP limit cap and feel that you can play all the Mods you want without reaching 161.000!

So I do beliveve this is a really great Mod! My sincere compliments!  :pirate

the spell-scribing and moving-parts-thieving reductions were crucial, obviously.
i think everything outside of combat XP could easily drop by half, if not more, and not make anything overmuch a pain to get through.

D&D characters are suposed to get the most exp by geting things done, not just smashing monsters.
Now, at last, the masks had fallen away.  The strings of the puppets had become visible, and the hands of the prime mover exposed.  Most ironic of all was the last gift that Raziel had given me, more powerful than the sword that now held his soul, more acute even than the vision his sacrifice had accorded me - the first bitter taste of that terrible illusion:  Hope.

Playing Tutu now, my thief level 9 only gets 40XP for a trap, and 16XP for locks,  and I get 10 XP per level for scribing scrolls, thats stock numbers I really don't think that too high.
with SOA I was getting 2750-3750 for traps and 950-1850 for locks, that seems a little high, and 1000Xp per level scroll.
What may seem more appropiate for scrolls, and maybe impossible to implement, is more points for scribing a scroll that is above you level, say if the best you can cast is 4th level , you get 200/level for a 5th , mayb 100/level for 4th , 50/level for 3rd, 25/level for 2nd, 10/level for 1st, 300/level for 6th. but the amount wouldalmost have to be adjusted for each level you gain, so you biggest bouns is for doing something tougher, and above  your level, and less for something that should be very easy.

Kind of like martial arts, a blue belt doing white belt forms/kicks  is not really improving his skills, he should already be able to do that without any difficulty, but doing  blue belt forms/kicks is improving his skills, until that is mastered, and  attempting red or black belt forms/kicks is going to be more difficult, so more experience.

Unneeded. In BG2, the difficulty for scribing scrolls isn't affected by your level vs. the level of the spell.
Moreover, something like that has to be hardcoded. Unless there is an OPCode which allows to set / alter the % of successfully scribing a spell, in which case some kind of workaround might be feasible  :)

we are talking about rebalancing in Tutu right. Well I know in BG2 the experince for traps and scrolls is not hard coded I've seen the 2da file that effects them.

I don't know if you separated them out, but...

If possible I'd like an option to remove spell scribing rewards completely (I think learning spells is reward enough) while still being able to get some amount of XP for thief skills.

I'm using:
Quest XP - 50%
Kill XP  - 75%
Skill XP - 25% (including spell memorization)

So far it's alright, though UB and Quest Pack's already-balanced rewards are rendered almost negligible when halved.

I'd use it again, particularly for smaller parties. Right now, I've got a full group of six.
