BG2 - Shapeshifter Armor question
« on: January 22, 2005, 03:51:51 PM »
Hello,

The shapeshifter can't wear any armor. That's the description of the kit.
Actually, he can wear helms, which is a great thing to prevent critical hits but is it a bug or a design conception?

Mage and Kensai can't wear armor, neither helms. I think a shapeshifter should follow the sames rules, because helms are a piece of armor.

I don't like to use "bug" exploit while playing and so, I was wondering about that issue.

What are your opinion about this?

My inclination is to say they ought to be restricted, yeah.

How come the Shapeshifter can use Shadow Dragon armor?

Also, I would like a better Kensai. Despite their great battle progress, they lack... abilities.

If you ever have witnessed a shapeshift (not up close and personal I hope) then the need for restricion becomes evident. The only problem RP-wise is what does a shapeshifter wear after s/he changed back? Delainey might add some insight here. :D

Hmm I wanted to do a patch that would do that, but it doesn't seem to work
COPY_EXISTING_REGEXP GLOB ~.+\.itm$~ ~override~
 PATCH_IF (SOURCE_SIZE > 0x71) THEN BEGIN
   READ_SHORT 0x1c "itemtype"
   READ_BYTE "0x29" "ukit1"
   PATCH_IF "%itemtype%" = 7 BEGIN
   WRITE_BYTE "0x29" ("%ukit1%" BAND "0b00010000")
   END
   END
   BUT_ONLY_IF_IT_CHANGES

What's wrong with this code?

Delainy can wear armor (being a bard) but she can not shapeshift while wearing it. I'd never considered helmets w.r.t. shapeshifting before, but that also gets into the question of, really, nearly anything--boots, guantlets, rings, etc. can also potentially interfere with shapeshifting, and their effects also continue to apply when a lycnathrope transforms.

Well I think that interfiring with shapeshifting - normal druids can wear armour so this is not the most considerate part of the game. But asaigleborgne first stated Shapeshifter unable to wear armour exept helmets while all other classes who cannot wear armour cannot wear helmets is clearly illogical,=.

What if you give her the robe of Vecna, then. As a werewolf bard, does she get the UAI ability?

Boots, gloves, and helmets I can see just getting unequipped.  Its not like they'd constrict the body of the wereform, or the animal form  Belts might be trickier, as are rings and necklaces.  It'd be interesting to see certain pieces of magical armor/equipment being allowed to shift with the character due to the magic of the armor allowing it to fit its wearer no matter the shape.

How come the Shapeshifter can use Shadow Dragon armor?

That's generally accepted as a bug, like monks wearing Keldorn's armour, and various other oversights.
