I Love The 90's Part Deux
« on: January 18, 2005, 09:54:13 PM »
I'm in the middle of watching this new series on VH1, and on the 1993 episode (at around the 45 minute mark)they featured Animaniacs/Pinky & The Brain, with a brief appearance by Rob Paulsen (Yakko Warner/Pinky/Anomen)

It's the kind of thing that makes a voice actor fan like me giggle like a schoolgirl (teehee!)

It's like the fact that Jim Cummings has voiced Minsc, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Ed the Hyena (Lion King) and many, many other characters...

Where does it say anything about who voiced the NPCs in BG/BG2?

IMDB has been featuring Video Game voice actors for quite some time now... It's pretty fun just poking around... Beside the aforementioned Jim Cummings/Minsc/Tigger connection, there's

Grey Delisle (Viconia/Daphne Blake from Scooby Doo)
Maurice LaMarche (Yoshimo/Brain - From P&TB/Lt. Kif from Futurama)
Kath Soucie (Aerie/Phil & Lil from Rugrats)
Michael Bell (Haer'dalis/Duke from GI Joe)
Dwight Schultz (Mae'Var/H.M. Murdock from A-Team)
Frank Welker (Cor Delryn/Terminsel/Freddie Jones & Scooby Doo/BILLIONS of other voices)

and my favorite surreal connection:

Roger Jackson (Keldorn/Mojo Jojo from Powerpuff Girls)

So next time Anomen's arguing with his dad, just think of it as Scooby arguing with Pinky... :)

Grey Delisle also voiced Nalia, IIRC.  I wonder what it would get to convince Jason to throw in a "jinkies" in the de'Arnise Romance.

She has a very distinctive voice, that's for certain, and I recognized it from the Pink Panther cartoon, I believe.  She was a recurring supporting character or something.  That's why I can't stand to have her in my party, sadly. :(

Oh, and she also did the female voiceset number 2 I believe.  For BG2.  The one that isn't default-lady, old-lady, or seductive-lady.

I figured that out too, unfortunately...and I never used that soundset because I don't want to feel like the PC I'm playing is an overgrown Rugrat. :P

If you guys want to see what some of the *other* Voice Actors look like, go out and get the two disc DVD set of "Comic Book the Movie." Written by, directed by, and starring Mark Hamiill!

Billy West (Fry on Futurama, Porky Pig, Ren)
Jess Harnell (Yakko on Animaniacs, Toy Story 2, and a ton of others)
Tom Kenny (SpongeBob Squarepants, Mayor of Townsville in Powerpuff Girls)
Lori Alan (Sue Storm on Fantastic Four)
Debi Derryberry (The Gummi Bears)
and a ton of others on the bonus disc feature called "Behind the Voices," which is incredible that they could assemble that much talent in one room...all the preceding plus...

Jim Cummings (Darkwing Duck, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and nearly every movie trailer you're ever seen)
Rob Paulsen (Pinky, Raphael on TMNT, Wakko, etc)
Maurice LaMarche (Brain, the new Inspector Gadget, and a *funny* Orson Welles impersonation)
and of course,
Mark Hamill (The Joker, among others)

This movie and the "BTV" special were great...anyone who's a fan of VO work will love it...I know I did!

I like watchcing a channel called 'Nicktoons' and evey once in a while for commercial break or something they will show a snippet from a recording session from one of their cartoons which I always found interesting.  I never pictured Rob Paulson doing the voice of Carl Wheezer from The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron or Mark the Alien from Fairly Odd Parents.  I always thought that Plankton's voice from Spongebob Squarepants was some big husky dude with a big-ass mouth.  Turns out that the voice, Mr. Lawrence, is just some average looking Joe Schmoe.

Now when I watch a cartoon or some CG movie I keep trying to see if I know the voice actor for a character.  "Hey, that sounds like..."

My favorite Spongebob voice actor mind-warping fact is that Kurgan, the big bad-ass from the first Highlander movie (Clancy Brown), does the voice of Mr. Krabbs, and if I'm not incorrect sings the theme song as well...

And, linking him back to the IE games, Clancy does the voice of a character named Rhombus in the first Fallout game (it's been ages since I've played that game, though, so I couldn't tell you who that character is)

And speaking of Plankton's voice actor (Mr. Lawrence, aka Doug Lawrence), he's actually a writer on the show as well, and was the original voice of Spongebob during the pitch period for the show...

Well, IMDB says that the actress who does the voice of Jaheira is Heidi Shannon, and it appears that other than a secondary character in the cartoon series 'The Mask', most of what she's done is a dozen or so video game voices (Command & Conquer, some of the Star Wars games)

One interesting thing I've seen is that it appears that any voice lines for TotSC for Jaheira were done using a different actress, Jennifer Darling, who has done Aeka on Tenchi Muyo, as well as Pythona on GI Joe, and many other assorted voices, and also appeared on Eight Is Enough for three years... Oh, and she also did the voice of Shar Teel in BG1...

Check it out here: http://www.imdb.com/Find?select=Characters&for=jaheira

The story on Shannon vs. Darling for Jaheira is that Darling was originally cast to do Jaheira, then when Shannon came in to do Faldorn for BG1, they also had her do Jaheira and decided they liked her version better than Darling's. Some outdated info got out to the BG1 cast lists that has apparently never been corrected.

Rob Paulsen voiced Anomen and Kivan? Didn't pick that at all. (Too long since I played BG1.)

I have always suspected Jaheira and Melissan were the same actress. Any info?

The cast of the BG series did all these cartoons, too? This terrifies me. A lot. Every time I see Aerie, I'm gonna be forced to think of her eating worms now.
