Flirty Journal Entries
« on: December 03, 2004, 06:35:59 PM »
While admiring the journal entries in the Quest Pack, I was reflecting on what would have happened if I'd tied journal entries to the Flirt Pack...

Flirting With Jaheira.

Jaheira gave me that look again today. I wonder when we will finally get it on?

**

Flirting With Viconia.

Viconia must be agitated about something, as she bit my tongue off today. She sexily repaired it, but it's not an experience I will soon forget.

Not a bad idea, if you want to implement it. :)

Flirting with Kelsey

Stuck my hand into Kelsey's robe today...

Erm. No thanks. Some things don't need to be engraved indelibly in my Bhaalspawn's journal for future generations.  :o

Heheh.

And, no, I did not seriously plan to incorporate journal entries in the flirt pack. :)

I thought for a moment just single entries like this would be fun.

We did great with that dragon today. We make a great team. Ilove you, I love you, I love you...

The entry would be accomplanied by an inserted text after resting to tell you about the new entry and that tells you that you seem to have misplaced your journal and then it magically reappeared. Just who might have made that entry is a mystery. You have a suspicion though and smile in her direction knowingly as she tries to look as normal as possible to everybody else in the group.

Jester, now that's a cool idea... Dropping hints by romance interested party members? Or perhaps a possibility to look into the journals of other party members while they are asleep and you're keeping watch? With a dexterity check and roll to check if you succeeded, intelligence check on how much you can decipher and how much info can you gather in a short time, wisdom check to see how fast you replace it, and a dexterity/intelligence check to see if you replace it correctly. If any of them fails, a charisma check if you can lull the person in question back to sleep, and an alignment check to see if you can get away with lying. If you're a paladin, well... :-)

... and a reality check to see, if JC actually wants to code all this. :P

Normally I would be pissed off, if I noticed that someone had a look at my diary (they don't even have to read it, looking is enough). But then again, I like your idea, I guess those words would placate me.
I didn't know you had it in you, Jester  ;)

:) I agree. Its very sweet and cute. Depending on the stage in the relationship, the journal <Charname> has might not be off limits to some. It depends on the depth of feelings and level of trust.

It so happens that if I kept a journal, and someone other than me read it, I would be required by law to stab them in the eye with a fork. Good that I don't keep a journal. :D Interesting idea though.

Oh, I know.  I'd be way pissed if someone stole my journal and then wrote something in it, no matter how sweet.  It's such an invasion of privacy... and I don't care how far along I am in the relationship.  A note slipped between the pages wouldn't offend me quite as much.  I just hope that if this is implemented, it would be optional.

I wouldn't be implementing any sort of widespread journaling. If a romance mod incorporated it as a one-off incident, though, that incident wouldn't be optional. And you'd have to decide on your own whether the NPC should be killed or kissed for it. :)

It does sound rather like the kind of cutesy-poo thing Kelsey would do.

If it was obvious the person hadn't read it, I wouldn't mind too much I guess. Though it is supposed to be my journal, and no one else's handwriting should be in it, so I'd still be kinda miffed. However, if someone, anyone, else read my journal... yeah, I'd have to agree with the fork in the eye thing.

I dunno. I just have a diff feeling about it. I don't write things in my journal that I wouldn't tell my loved one anyway and they have exclusive access to it if they want to read. It is about level of trust and comfort. Some have a diff level. :) Maybe someone could make a mini mod that you could install that adds this in for those that don't mind? Some flirt related  journal entries, other cutesy stuff. I'd install it. :D

How about including the option to turn into the slayer, if you don't approve of the fact that your loved one stole your diary?  ;)

Woa, now just take a look at what gets into Charname's diary (It is not a vewy vewy persunal item, you know). I agree to some extend to what has been said above as it is a projection from your own personal diaries you write a lot of personal stuff in. Some spill their heart into their diaries which keeps their secrets and listens to all the stories, even if nobody else does. Charname's diary doesn't qualify in this respect as mine more reads like a shopping list at worst. I don't know how many of you write personal entries into it, Elmonster style. In most of the quests I do not even bother to read what goes into it more than once, as it is seldom tailored at my character, so this could be a nice break as a one-off event.

Kelsey would be good, but perhaps even someone who doesn't admit too openly to having been won over, but is already reconsidering his/her globals.

If someone who puts his/her life on the line to protect mine cannot write a single message into my notes, I doubt the romance would have gone far anyway, but that is just me.

Eh, I realize that as is the PC's journal is really little more than a "shopping list" but I am one of those freaks who write tons of stuff in character of a more "personal" nature.  I confess to once writing a whole "Bridget Jones Diary"- inspired running comentary of a romance with Kelsey in which my PC poured out all her insecurities ("thought: does one burn more calories as Ravager?")  Do I really want my significant other knowing that?   ;)

Notes are different from a journal.  I tend to think of my journal as the one place where my PC can pour out her heart and doesn't need to censor or justify herself.  But that's just me, ye olde privacy freak.

As an aside, would you really want to know all the innermost thoughts of your loved one?  How many times Jaheira thought of Khalid a day?  How guilty Anomen felt about everything ?  How many other women Kelsey had given honey to?  ;)

After giving this some thought, I have to agree that the journal as it is presented in the game isn't really a diary, it is more like a place where the PC writes very long and detailed mementos about what he/she has to do.  There is very rarely anything in there of a highly personal or emotional nature (the only thing I can think of at the moment is the entry that is put there when the PC's romantic interest is kidnapped by Bodhi).

That said, I can see why some people think of it as a diary, but on serious thought I don't. :)

I still hold to the idea that if you want, something like this could be put in as an optional part of the Flirt packs.  For added flavor, you could even have a few scrawled entries from Viconia telling you how low of a worm ridden bit of iblith you are for something you did. ;) Or some more pointed notes hinting at bit of naughtiness, perhaps her musings concerning her thoughts on the night before?

I agree that the journal isn't a diary persay, although the game itself does provide a limitation on personalizing things since it can't extrapolate the myriad of individual PC personalities to do so. It can go either way really...

Well, you can write whatever you want in the journal (USER section), so it *can* function like a diary.   The Quests section is just a to-do/done list.  The Journal part is a bit more personal but not hugely so.

Personally I'd rather have notes slipped into the diary rather than actual entries, although I suppose that could get messy if a lot of your party members want to go through the journal. :)
