Iron Modders Wear Tutus?
« on: November 29, 2004, 05:31:50 PM »
Has the concept of an Iron Modder: BG1Tutu Edition ever been considered?  As one ignorant to the wrold of codgin mods, I have no idea whether htis would be more time consuming than standard modding.  If so, damn.

This is actually one of the reasons that my entry in the last Iron Modder was not submitted in time.  I'd coded everything up to take place in Beregost, and only afterward did I remember that IM was BG2 only.  I had to recode everything to take place in Trademeet, but time ran out before testing could be completed.

I think the primary reason for the BG2-only restriction is that many of the judges may not have Tutu installed.

BG2 has the largest modder base, the most modding documentation, and stock BG2 is a stable platform to build from. That's why the competition is BG2-specific.

We could do some sort of "Tutu edition" but I have a feeling it wouldn't go over terribly well. Yes, there's the issue of making sure all of the judges have a stable Tutu install, and there's the fact that not as many people know the ins and outs of Tutu modding even BEFORE you put the time pressure on.

Having a Tutu Iron Mod competition could very well jump-start BG1Tutu modding.

How many Tutu mods are there compared to BG2 mods? How many are being worked on compared to BG2 mods? Very few.

Yeh, that's a perfectly fair comparison, obviously.

How many Tutu mods are there compared to IWD2 mods? I'll use that if we can just compare with whatever we feel like. :)

Well, this could go on for a while in fascinating fashion, but...

Yes, clearly, there's some Tutu modding going on, including two "Hey, wow, better fleshed out than those BG1 NPCs!" NPCs, of course the fact that it is the reference platform for BG1Banter, and so on.

Might an Iron Modder event encourage more people to learn the ins and outs of Tutu modding? Possibly, possibly. It would be more of a logistical headache than a BG2 IM, though, because of the research the modders would have to do in order to know the intricacies of Tutu modding (Area names, DLG names, various other resource names, etc.) as well as finding a few judges who can properly install Tutu so that they can fairly evaluate the mods...

If there was a clamor, or at least a reasonable murmur, I'd consider doing it as a special event.

I didn't know the reference point of what Iron Modder actually is now and is the second part of the two-part series of which Tutu is the first part would be considered "unfair"  ::). Wanting to encourage more Tutu modding is a bad thing somehow now?

Tutu iron modding would be cool. More locations so not everything would take place in the Copper Coronet or Five Flagons.

 :o :o :o :o :o

Jansens aren't as harmless like everybody supposes!
They got them stumpy legs and puffy potato noses!
And what's with all the turnips?
Why do they eat so much root vegetables, anyway?
Jansens, Jansens,
It must be Jansens!!!

I have been informed that my in-depth tutorial is not entirely accurate.  For a filename that originally has 8 letters, the first character is replaced with an underscore.

BG1 has SomeFile.cre
Tutu would have _omeFile.cre
