I am very dumb (Cleric of Sune Kit)
« on: November 19, 2004, 09:14:48 AM »
Okay, last I remember, I had started vaguely testing a Cleric of Sune kit for PCs to see if any of the features worked. My setup-sune.tp2 now, however, looks curiously identical to my tp2 for IM3. My, someone did something very stupid there, and it wasn't even 3am.

Okay, so I have to do the tp2 over, but in the meantime, I do have this old kit description:

Racial Requirements: Elf, Human, Half-Elf
Ability Requirements: Wisdom 12, Intelligence 11, Charisma 16
Alignment: CG

Special Abilities:
1st level: Charm Person once per day
9th level: Flame Strike once per day
17th level: Immune to Charm
Proficiencies of 2 in Flail and Sword and Shield

Disadvantages:

Cannot cast Animate Dead (Had this implemented and started testing it.)
When seeing an enemy at close range (range =1), the Heartwarder must make a save vs. paralyzation  or will be -2 THACO for 2 rounds (I know I had implemented this and started testing it.)
Cannot gain proficiencies in Two-Handed Weapon Style or Two Weapon Style

Some of the things I still have in mind:

If Charisma drops below 16, the Heartwarder loses casting ability.

When a Heartwarder PC gains the temple as a stronghold,  I'm thinking of also giving them a Red Velvet Cloak. This item would be +1 AC and allow casting Mass Charm once per day while equipped. (Note: Have made a Red Velvet Cloak, as well as a Mass Charrm spell for an innate ability, but I know I didn't test this yet. The cloak is very pretty though!)

The Heartwarder Cream may switch from being a Surayah item to being the holy symbol the cleric gets at level 25, with the typical symbol bonuses added on to the healing spell. (I haven't looked at this in detail, but if I recall correctly, I did switch this item over to being a Holy symbol. I did a less-powerful version of Regeneration, which I think I assigned to this item.)

The quest to acquire the stronghold will involve the dryads in Windspear Hills and adventuring to a new dungeon.
There will be one scavenger hunt type quest once the Temple is the PCs stronghold, plus the typical need-your-advice scenarios.

Ability Requirements: . . . Intelligence 11,

weird.  not that it's inappropriate.  then again, realistically, every class with specialized abilities (especially those that are largely discretionary) should have a similar INT min.  but of course that's house-rule material, unless one cares to mount a game-mechanics campaign against Hasbeen<tm>...

This looks good, and I'm interested in where you got your source inspirations for a Cleric of Sune. I've looked on the net and can't find anything.

I'd recomend that immunity to charm is earned considerably earlier than 17th level; Elves and half-elves are meant to have 90%/30% immunity to charm & sleep so if you think its relevant I'd let it be earned at much lower levels. I'd consider an enhanced charm spell with harder saving throws (not sure how  I'd code it) to retain its use since the opponents at higher levels have resistance to charm. (BTW I know  the elven immunities are poorly implemented in BG, but at least one mod has fixed this).

The kits issued over a G3 for the cleric remix are more intrusive and shape the class more than you propose (IMO), although they pay for their enhanced skills by loosing various standard spells. You  may consider this good or bad.

I also remember a class published in "White Dwarf" that focused on enchantment, it might act as prototype, or generate some ideas, I'll look it up later and post anything useful

The Forgotten Realms campaign expansion, Faiths & Avatars has information about specialty priests of Sune (among others). I have no idea if Bons used this, though.

As far as I know they are not implemented at all.

I used info from three Sunite kits detailed in 2nd ed. "Faiths and Avatars" and  "Warriors and Priests of the Realms," the Aesthete, the Silkwhisper and the Heartwarder, for ideas to implement. My goal is to reach some happy medium between the sparse customization of the game's Lathander, Helm and Talos kits and the detail of the Cleric Remix.

I'll look at that; I hadn't considered the saving throw for the basic spell, only duration and the number of targets.

I'll interject here and say that if we'll endeavour to make Cleric Remix compatible with whatever Bons creates. :)

And if you want a hand with the kit malarkey let us know.

While I suppose that, technically speaking, it's probably more realistic to make up a Cleric of Sune kit for Surayah, it's not strictly neccessary as (I believe) she'd have been fine as a bard, not to mention you'd save the time having to make her a unique kit.  Then again, the time required to do so is so small I guess it really doesn't matter.  Nonetheless, good luck and good job on that initial kit.  Just don't forget, if she's so weak as to not be able to stand up to melee, you may want to give her some benefits to ranged combat.

I suppose that, given that Keto is not complete, you'll perhaps be devoting more time to Surayah now?  Pretty please?  One of these days I'll get my recorder back online; when I do I'll be available to do all the British/Indian accented VA you want  ;D.  Or perhaps not.  We don't want to scare any potential customers out there.

The Cleric of Sune kit is for PCs. Surayah will be a bard.

Glad to hear it, after all this time, I think of Surayah as a bard. {but then I'm a bit nuts about them}  :)

I like bards, myself--my last PC was a bard (just a bard--no kit) and I had a lot of fun with her.
