what about the Cloak of Balduran from BG1. I think that item should be restored into BG2, I mean you can get his helmet his shield, his armor, and his sword. The cloak is the only thing you can't get with out cheating.

And another thing PLAT08 was this plate mail+3, it was golden and looked really cool. It still does in BG2 if you CLUAConsole for it. However the description for the item is gone so is the name.
Now, at last, the masks had fallen away.  The strings of the puppets had become visible, and the hands of the prime mover exposed.  Most ironic of all was the last gift that Raziel had given me, more powerful than the sword that now held his soul, more acute even than the vision his sacrifice had accorded me - the first bitter taste of that terrible illusion:  Hope.

The Cloak appears in the Lich in the Docks component of the Tactics mod...

Of course, you will usually get your ass handed back to you rather than a cloak, but still, it's there  ;)

MISC76, The Dream Potion, is indeed a holdover from BG1 but not used there either. *pause for ideas being beamed into my head by aliens* I just thought of a cool use for it: I've always hated Jan's quest for what it is, a bunch of time-consuming FedEx quests that make no sense whatsoever. A much better way (to my mind) would be to cut the Hidden and the Githyanki out of it altogether, and instead make Vaelag more substantial. The Dream Potion, or to be more precise, the bottle that contains the Dream Potion, is what he used to poison Lissa's mind: It sucked her willpower away from her, and replaced them with what was previously in the bottle--emptiness. This atrophy of the mind will persist until a Cleric of sufficient level places the bottle in contact with Lissa's lips once again, and reverses the flow.

Hey, what do you know, I rambled on about something and still managed to have it vaguely connected with the forum topic. :)

And I'll echo Lord Kain's opinion that the Plate+3 from Durlag's Tower should be reinstated in the game, with its name and description restored. Preferably obtainable in a place more accessible than the Planar Sphere. Pity that BG2 can't use BG1's old avatar for the Helm of Glory: The Plate+3, Ashideena, Helm of Glory and Large Shield+2 made one stylin' fashion statement on the battlefield.

And "rreiner," why do you bother using pseudonyms if you're going to be so obvious about it? ;) Go tell it to Terminsel!

Actually I am rather appalled by all these trinkets following me around. :P I mean I have been all over the place and everything that I did not carry during my capture should really be someplace else. The only thing I have yet to rediscover right next to me is Balduran's butter knive. :)

You mean the game should detect what items are on your imported character, and only those BG1 items should be present in BG2? That would kind of suck, since PC Mages, Thieves, and Bards would get screwed out of the Helm of Balduran, PC Warriors would have to play the game without finding any Archimagi Robes, etc.....not to mention that a character rolled in BG2 would lose out on all items potentially carried over from BG1.

Even if not, the items would still follow you, even if you didn't take them with you to the final battle of BG1. Everybody knows that the whole Bhaalspawn crisis will come to a head in Tethyr, so every adventurer worth his salt must decide to either
A) Gang up with some friends, scrape together the best gear we can buy/borrow/steal, and head to Tethyr to take advantage of the situation (primarily by killing other people who had the same idea and taking their gear), or
B) Go hide in a cave somewhere and wait for all the crazies to kill each other off.
So you've got a pretty large percentage of the adventuring population (including everyone who plays this game) heading south to Tethyr, and taking with them all the worthwhile items thay can get their hands on. That's a substantial items drift, without even including the PC.

I was sorely tempted to play along, but I'm afraid the "pseudonym" is even more obvious than you think, since my RL first name is Reinier (which you can't pronounce, so don't bother trying  ;)).

Only reason I didn't use my actual name is that "reinier" was already taken back at BIS...

@Six: I see your point and it has some story value. I always saw recurring items as a convenience for developers and a welcome deja-vu for players to bond with the game (Hey, that dead old hag is wearing my cloak which I found about a year ago in BG, damn. Off to the cleaners again, I guess). Luckily there is not much that you have to wear off any liches. :) Comparable  items should still be there, but others. Very often when browsing the guidebooks I am quite surprised by the amount of trinkets my party can amass even before Spellhold. With the improved encounters, Yoshimo and some potions of  invisibility, you own everything and the kitchen sink which is purchaseable in Amn in no time. :P

a lot of these seem like the designers just changed their minds on how to implement things or forgot that they had already planned an alternative path, or some combination.  am si's key and the cult key, for instance, could have been the same things as their in game counterparts, but maybe two different designers made them before realizing the mistake.  the same could be said for most things we're not sure of

the one strange one is the fairy dust, which afaik has the same bam as holy water.  it makes me think of the fairy queen in the dryad hills, maybe some connection with the yoshimo thread we found traces of.  it would have to be involved in some sort of fey encounter, i think, and there aren't that many in the game.  the druid grove could be another place, maybe in the stronghold quests.

make you fly?  ;)  I have no idea from a PnP standpoint, though isn't there the glitterdust spell which renders the party invisible or detects invisibility or somesuch?  it could be something to be traded, too, like if the fairy queen has some to give to someone else, and the party needs to deliver it, or some other such fun fedex quest... :-\

Here in this note I beseech the noble knights of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart to answer my call of desperation. There are, at this moment, beasts of huge size and ferocity rampaging on my lands. Ogres and their fell kin have killed my peoples and tenants, and I have not the means to rout them. For all that is good, will you descend upon them with your righteousness?  I await your response.

You could put that on one of the knight/ogres that you fight at the start of the Kirkraag quest.

Glitterdust...let me see what I have here (2E player's Handbook)
Glitterdust
(Conjuration/Summoning)

Range: 10 yds./level   Components: V, S, M
Duration: Special   Casting Time: 2
Area of Effect: 20 ft. cube   Saving Throw: Special

This spell creates a cloud of glittering golden particles within the area
of effect. Those in the area must roll a successful saving throw vs. spell
or be blinded (-4 penalties to attack rolls, saving throws, and Armor
Class) for 1d4+1 rounds. In addition, all within the area are covered by
the dust, which cannot be removed and continues to sparkle until it fades.
Note that this reveals invisible creatures. The dust fades in 1d4 rounds
plus one round per caster level. Thus, glitterdust cast by a 3rd-level
wizard lasts for four to seven rounds.
The material component is ground mica.

Oh, yeah, if you want to talk about inconsistencies:
Why don't boots of speed age your characters (like the Wish spell?)
...and many more...

Well, why doesn't Wish age your character? Age just isn't relevant in BG2 because of the short time frame.

TOT-

I never really liked the idea of boots of speed aging your character.  Though haste might make a little sense, wish certainly makes sense, the fact that boots of speed ages a character blows my mind.  I can't remember which theory proved this, but the following is true: as you go faster, the world around you ages faster than you do, proportionate to your speed (i.e. the faster you go, the slower time affects you).  Basically, because boots of speed only increase your speed by letting you run faster (as opposed to the Haste spell, which affects your biological make-up).  Really, though, making characters age by using powerful things was just a game balancing mechanic that defied all logic and reality.  Oh well :P, at least TSR did a good job everywhere else in DnD.
