convert Areas
« on: September 19, 2004, 08:23:54 AM »
Hi!

I hope you can help me with this problem: I want to import areas from IWD1, IWD2, PS:T and BG1 to BG2. For IWD2-areas I used the Area-Cleaner I got from pocketplane;
I've put the *.are, *.wed, *.tis, *.mos and 3 *.bmp-files in the override-folder, of course I also removed all actors, items and other stuff which could cause a crash. I also checked the Area with DLTCEP and nothing seems to be wrong.

But when I try to load a smaller area within the game (BG2), the game loads the area very fast and then crashes without promting an error message. When I try to load a larger area the game seems to be loading for eternity until the error message "out of memory".

Any idea what's wrong?

Have you removed ambients and songs from the area to make sure its free of everything?

You shoud use IETME to take a look at the area again, apart from DLTCEP and try again.

I have successfully transferred several areas from IWD1 and 2 to BG2 though it took a lot of fiddling around!

if dltcep doesn't cry, then most likely the problem is with the uncompressed  ambients.
If an ambient is still in a compressed bif, then the engine goes mad.
