Character Animation Actions
« on: September 07, 2004, 10:54:40 AM »

Does anybody know how to make a character do the actions of casting a spell without getting them to cast a spell?

Much the same way you can use Swing() in a script.  I looked through the IESDP and did some searchs in NI but couldn't find anything.

I know i could get them to cast a dummy spell but is that the only way of doing it?

TIA

I believe SetSequence(SEQ_CAST) would be what you're looking for.

Although I've never used it before so no guarantees if it works or not. :)

It works, but you won't get the coloured balls of light that normally come when you cast. Dummy spell is the only way to get those.

You can do both/either with scripting:

SetSequence(SEQ_CONJURE)  gets the character to wave their arms as if casting a spell.

CreateVisualEffectObject("YourEffectVVC","TargetCreature")

Both work perfectly.

But like I said, Cuv... casting balls. :)

True... those visuals are handled elsewhere,  and they can be faked like you say with a dummy spell.

I just happen to know both these work as I am currently working on my 'imaginary' modding excercise of the Borg encounter... and making their Multi-Phasic Adaptive Shielding  ;D

I'm almost sure you can fake them with createvisualeffect, it will look for a bam resource if it can't find vvc.
Though i would use a spell and cast it with forcespellres.
