Okay, okay, so I posted this in a bunch of forums except here. Doh!

When Blue was initially working on the Keto NPC mod, she asked for individuals to volunteer music samples. She intended to work these into Keto's quest that involves a bardic competition. (No, I'm not calling it Amnish Idol.) Blue did not pass on any of the submissions she'd received when we resumed work on Keto at PPG, so I'm looking for brave, new volunteers to contribute their talents to this portion of the mod.

E-mail your submissions to llamababe@carolina.rr.com. Keep in mind that the material needs to fit within the Forgotten Realms setting. If used, your submission may be edited in length for the sake of pacing the cutscene, and you will be included in the mod's credits.

I am trying to wrap Keto's quest up over the next two weeks, so the quicker the response, the more likely I'll find a place for your submission. I have as many male singing voices as I can use now, so I'm only considering women and instrumentals at this point. Go ahead! Send me something! I really want you to!

Any additional questions, please ask, PM or e-mail.

Unfortunately nobody recorded me trying to MC while drunk last night. On the positive side, I think I'm now hung over enough to do the, ahem, desired part today, although it rather depends on my mum being in.

"Simon, why are you talking like that?"

So what sort of music would this be? A guitar accompaniment of "The Butcher's Boy"- 18th/19th century Irish folk song?

Thanks Cliffette, but unfortunately my computer is refusing to translate the files. It appears to only accept midi files and these are rar.  (You can tell I'm guessing, can't you.) I'm assuming Bons is accepting a wide range of sounds, though.

You have to open up the .rar files with winrar (www.rarlab.com) or some such decompression program. :)

The files inside are .ogg format though, which should play with winamp or similar.

But if you can only take midi, here's a link to one of the songs that Bons covers. It's slightly different to the way she sings it, but it'll do.

Yes, that sounds along the lines of what I'm looking for songwise I'll also note that acoustic instruments = yes, noticebly digitized or amped = no.

To summarize the songs in the sample archive, so no one needs to download it ever (because it doesn't seem to have been helpful or encouraging like I intended, plus I murder "Come Again, Sweet Love"):

Wild Rover (Irish Traditional)
Rose, Rose, Rose, Red (Traditional)
I Care Not For These Ladies (Campion, 16th c.) - This one will be in the competition, sung by Scarhart
Come Again, Sweet Love (Dowland, 16th c.)
Black Is The Color (Traditional)
Aura Lee (Poulton, 1861)

These were only safe suggestions. Use your imagination. I mean, the melody to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" played on a mandolin could work. Really!

Well, I envisioned a bard by the name of Britney (carrying a spear, of course), singing "Overprotected" from within a Globe of Invulnerability. :)

I would love to hear If I Was A Blackbird in the female version. Given the figures of my NPCs Britney would not stand out much anyway.

http://www.chivalry.com/cantaria/lyrics/blackbird.html

I am a young maiden, my story is sad
For once I was carefree and in love with a lad
He courted me sweetly by night and by day
But now he has left me and gone far away

    Chorus:
Oh if I was a blackbird, could whistle and sing
I'd follow the vessel my true love sails in
And in the top rigging I would there build my nest
And I'd flutter my wings o'er his broad golden chest

He sailed o'er the ocean, his fortune to seek
I missed his caresses and his kiss on my cheek
He returned and I told him my love was still warm
He turned away lightly and great was his scorn

He offered to take me to Donnybrook Fair
To buy me fine ribbons, tie them up in my hair
He offered to marry and to stay by my side
But then in the morning he sailed with the tide

My parents they chide me, and will not agree
Saying that me and my true love married should never be
Ah but let them deprive me, or let them do what they will
While there's breath in my body, he's the one that I love still

    For a male perspective...

I am a young sailor, my story is sad
For once I was carefree and a bold sailor lad
I courted a lassie by night and by day
But now she has left me and gone far away

    Chorus:
Oh if I was a blackbird, could whistle and sing
I'd follow the vessel my true love sails in
And in the top rigging I would there build my nest
And I'd flutter my wings o'er her lily-white breast

Or if I was a scholar and could handle a pen
One secret love letter to my true love I'd send
And I'd tell of my sorrow, my grief and my pain
Since she's gone and left me in yon flowery glen

I sailed o'er the ocean, my fortune to seek
Though I missed her caress and her kiss on my cheek
I returned and I told her my love was still warm
But she turned away lightly and great was her scorn

I offered to take her to Donnybrook Fair
And to buy her fine ribbons to tie up her hair
I offered to marry and to stay by her side
But she said in the morning she sailed with the tide

My parents they chide me, and will not agree
Saying that me and my false love married should never be
Ah but let them deprive me, or let them do what they will
While there's breath in my body, she's the one that I love still

Whoa, ok, I totally missed this thread when I came back from my holiday!  I'd really like to submit something if a) there's still time and b) I can clean up my recordings.  I was thinking something along the lines of 'The Collier Recruit'
'Can I swashbuckle through your drawers?' - Grim Squeaker

Alarielle: There's a good kind of dirty?
Andyr: It's the 'cool, kinky' dirty as opposed to the 'take a bath you fucking messy fuck' dirty :)

Useless fact of today: Donnybrook is associated with brawls.
I.e. "He had a bit of a donnybrook with those lads yesterday".

I've gotten a sufficient number and variety of performances submitted or arranged for the bardic competition to get it done.

Now, if you think you've got something really brilliant, by all means, send it on. There's one number (by me) I'd happily toss away in favor of something on par with Eral's singing and playing. (She is fabulous, people! FAB-U-LOUS!)
