Virtue / Alignment disagreement bug
« on: July 04, 2004, 08:30:25 PM »
I'm running an Evil party, but recuited Kelsey anyway, as a substitute until we got Edwin. We're doing the Thieves' Guild quests in all the evil ways, like (snap his neck quickly and quietly) and killing Embarl. This shot our Virtue down to 2, and understandably, Kelsey wasn't going to stand for that. Oddly enough, he didn't sound upset: He just came up to me with his standard "I'd hate to leave the group now," dialogue, with no accusations of moral wrongdoing or anything. Anyway, I told him to go blow off to the Adventurer's Mart, and Kelsey left the party.

Kelsey's portrait, however, did not.

So then I recruited Edwin, thinking that would kick the errant picture out of....the picture. It didn't, the game still thought I had a full party of 6, and wouldn't let me boot Kelsey because Kelsey wasn't there. Ctrl-Ying Kelsey's portrait did nothing, and he wasn't in front of the Adventurer's Mart when I figured that killing him might help. Good thing I had a recent Quicksave.

So, is this a Virtue issue, a Virtue / mod NPC incompatibility issue, or a "Six, your computer is so goddamn screwed up I don't even know why you bother us with this crap" issue?

Are those the only 2 mods you have running?

Nope, I've got Tactics, Ease of Use, Item Upgrades, NPCKit, NPCTweak, Rogue Rebalancing, Enhanced Thief Stronghold, Hell Trials....maybe Oversight and a couple others. But I don't see how any of them could be affecting this.

It can't actually be thoroughly analyzed, since I didn't archive a Savegame of the bug, but I'd like to know what the heck may have caused it.

You'd be surprised (or, maybe you wouldn't).  :)
NPCKit and NPCTweak?  Don't know those.  (but I've been loosing track of all the mods for a while now)  Only other question I can think of is: Have you run those other mods together, sucessfully, before?

Your weiDU log will list all the weiDU mods you have installed; I've long held that the more mods you have installed, the greater the potential for problems.  ;)

At this point, all I could suggest would be to load a save from before Kelsey leaves, or tries to leave, and see if he properly leaves.  Or, just dump him before he's forced to leave.  To get bug-fix feedback, try posting to the respective mod forums of the various mods you have installed (along with a full list of all the mods you have installed).

edit: my first choice for alternate forums would be Kelsey and NPCTweak.

I really don't have any idea what might cause this, sorry. Is it a recurring problem? If it does happen again, send a save my way and I'll see what I can do.

I'm well past the problem now (I was past it when I first posted, in fact, and said so), and it may have been a freakish occurence anyway. But if it happens again, rest assured that proper bugkilling steps will be taken.
