Dont' understand why this produces a stutter bug
« on: June 18, 2004, 07:24:30 PM »
Why, if you add to a .TRA file line a reference to an already existnig BG2 wavc file does it produce a stutter bug?

For one of my .tra lines I've added [ELLESI04] at the end of the text line since her clone speaks.  Everything works perfectly, branching, etc.  This line isn't called from a script file.  But the minute I add the reference to the pre-existing ingame WAVC file it gives me a stutter bug.  W/O it it works fine -- no stutter bug. What's even more confusing is that I've used ingame sound wavc files (but now that I think of it they were called from my npc's script .bcs) w/o getting this problem.

Any feedback would be appreciated.  Thanks.

If you have Near Infinity, use the dialog.tlk editor (Edit > Dialog.tlk) to view the new dialog line with the sound in it.  Make sure you can click on the sound and see it in the resulting dropdown list.  Also make sure the Entry Type variable is set to Standard Entry(3).  I believe a similar method exists in DLTCEP.

You didn't mention if the sound is actually playing.  Is the stutter in the game's framerate, or the sound?  Is the sound playing from inside a dialog, as in while you're talking to the NPC?  If so, is the dialog flagged to pause the game?

Try copying ELLESI04.WAV to the override folder, though I don't see how that would help.  Also, make sure you have a zero and not the letter O in the filename.

Make sure you have the latest version of WeiDU.

Probably not much help, but I figured I'd take a stab at it.

Don't have NI installed as its java run time file was too big to download with dial-up.  I think I located the problem.  When I was playing the sound in DLTCEP it got exported to the override folder but it wasn't playable by the game. When I removed the file  everything worked perfectly.

Thanks.

A-ha!  I'm glad you got it working.  :)

That's one of the things I don't like about DLTCEP, along with the interface.  NI only copies files to the override folder if you actually change something, or specifically tell it to.

NI's required Java runtime download is fairly large (half the size of Kelsey SoA), but given how much I like and use the tool, it was well worth it.  With a halfway decent connection, it only takes 15-20 minutes to download. (The SDK is much bigger, but NI only requires the runtime libraries.)

Could be a new slogan.

"Kelsey: Keepin' the Ladies Online All Night since 2002."
Cespenar says, "Kelsey and friends be at the Pocket Plane? Ohhh yesssss!" http://www.pocketplane.net

Or another new slogan:

"Kelsey - he's just too hot to handle!"

 ;) ;D
