Any good reasons to get the Sola mod even if your not interested in romancing him because your not a homosexual?

Last time I checked, being gay was not a prerequisite for download.  Solaufein is an ass-kicker in battle and adds his own quests to the mix. S'up to you.

Furthermore, it's very easy to let Sola know that you don't swing that way early on in his joining the party...

After a few rounds of this "I am not gay, so is there any reason for me to download Kelsey/download Solaufein?" stuff, I'm really hoping someone shows up soon and says

"I'm gay, so is there any reason for me to download Tashia?"

(and the answer to the first question is that Kelsey and Solaufein both have at least two banters with every NPC, they have a bunch of interjections, blah blah blah, and being gay doesn't have anything to do with roleplaying a female character anyway, as most of the female characters in the MMORPG of your choice can attest to.)

I was thinking that the romance part of the mod is what makes it great.  Since I have no interest in that, I was simply wondering what else is good about the mod.

I think the problem is that sometimes people get confused over what romancable means, in that they can get the impression that the romance is the *only* aspect of the mod. After all, Aerie, Jahaera, Viconia and Anomen are romancable but we don’t boot them from the party because we think ‘well I’m not going to romance them so there’s no point in taking them’ (we boot them because they are annoying instead ;))
Look upon Solaufein, Kelsey et al as new NPCs that have the added bonus of being romancable if you like that kind of thing, not the other way round.

Yeah your right.  What are Solaufein's stats?

His stats are very good; some would say they're too good. Since it takes only 2 minutes to download the mod with a dialup connection and approximately 10 seconds to install, I would suggest that you just try the mod for yourself.

Hi, I'm gay, so is there any reason for me to download Tashia? (grin)

Just wanted to make a statement. As a gay role-play-gamer I do enjoy the possibility of being able to have a male/male romance. I am quite looking forward for the solaufein romance which I am about to start. Nonetheless, I am not getting the kick out it if Solaufein should ask to marry me or something.  I value the game because of the gameplay, the endless possibilites when creating characters, the battle system etc. and not for "who will I be able to romance". Scanning the www I am simply baffled at the importance of the romance business in BG2. This is not what makes the game tick, is it? It

In other words, I couldn't agree more with Red. The romance is not the only aspect of the mod, romancing NPC not the only aspect of the game. And to JCompton: "Despite me being gay I am more than eager to download the Tashia-Romance or the Nalia-Romance after I finished my little "intermezzo" with Solaufein.

I'm gay, but getting a kick out of Sola anyways... *gay girls are a lot less frequent in gaming than gay guys, I've noticed...* ;)
Still, I can't wait till the Chloe mod's done...

Yo.  ;)

I'm a gay girl, I've romanced Anomen twice, I'm looking forward to the Edwin mod, and I've already got a male Paladin CHARNAME waiting for Sola. After all, it's a role-playing game, not a "mimick-real-life" game.

Bloody good point. I've roleplayed a lesbian character (much to my (male) DMs delight....what is it about men and lesbians?. <_< ...on second thoughts, don't answer that!!) and I have romanced all the romanceble characters in BG2, along with a sizable chunk of the downloadable ones, too. It's just, well, a nice addition to a game, regardless of what your actual sexuality is.

I think its very important that (if there are romances in a game) you have the posibility to have also homosexuell romances.
If people play this romances or not - thats not the most important part - the message is important: "Its nothing strange or ill to be gay. Its normal."

I totally agree. It's about people. And people fall in love with each other. With whom, it doesn't matter.  :P

The answer is simple: name one adventure-fantasy book or movie which does not contain a romance. "Hobbit" comes to mind...

Romance is an integral part of any adventure, often a driving force behind it (kill the princess, marry the dragon). BG2's main attraction to many people is the “realistic” feel of the characters. And in reality people stuck with a small group united by a single goal far afield will fall in and out of love a number of times when they are young and handsome (or maybe only once?). It is natural that both people who did and did not experience it in the real life like this element in the game. Some want to re-live the joyous atmosphere of an adventure and strong, uninhibited feelings, and some want to figure out what the hell it’s all about. Realistically every BG character should have been romance-enabled - for a different PC and different romantic options.
