I think that after the banter/dialogs where Solaufein learns about surfacer flirting customs, he would be as eager to try it as he seems to be with other surfacer conventions he has encountered in Charname's company.

I think he would. Sola would probably consider initiating flirts an important part of learning about the concept of flirting, and also a good way to learn about the PC.

Does Sola ever ask about the PC's state of mind during the day? Something as simple as wondering if the PC was having a good day or not.

I really like that idea. Would it be possible to add some extra options depending on chapter or location or something? Like if he asks you how you're feeling in Sudanessellar, you could have a chance to tell him you're eager to fight Irenicus or you're scared of what will happen, et cetera?

No no no! That was to mollify Jason :) There are always going to be some flirts that start the same (hugs, kisses, etc), so I'm not really worried about that sort of thing.
I'd like to see what you can do with as a PG-rated one, myself. The Kelsey ones are rather.. steamy.

"The goodies" are a joking way of referring to intimate parts of the anatomy which are only exposed in the bath or othe very personal circumstances. The expectation implied is that the sight will give rise to bawdy comment about Sola's being a "very well-equipped adventurer."

I’m having a bit of a problem with the one with the singing.
At the moment it starts with Sola asking the PC to sing to him, which makes it a Sola initiated flirt right? The problem is that that means you don’t get to try out all the options. Is this okay with everyone or does anyone have a suggestion on how to change that if it isn’t?
One thing I was thinking was that if Sola repeated the flirt I could add in a response something along the lines of ‘Do you never tire of hearing my voice Solaufein?’ ...

Well as it stands he asks the PC to sing and the PC then has a choice of responses/song styles - so I guess that makes it more of a dialogue? Gah! I'm so confused!!
But I was thinking of doing 'the flip side' as it were with the PC asking Sola to sing as well. But I haven't put as much thought into that one as yet....

sola: charname!!! beware, this room reminds me of some rooms that i have seen in temples of the underdark...as long as you step on the safe tiles you will be ok, but if you stray off the intended path, the room will punish you...obviously from the inscription on the door the safe path is formed of letter combinations, possibly spelling out the words of the god or gods held holy in this place....

you know potions of intelligence boosting???
how about the sola mod actually prompting the player with answers if you boost your intelligence that way???

now i really dont remember the dialogs well enough to be that precise, and i currently dont have bg2 loaded in my hard drive, i'll come up with the general pattern for the interjection, and you guys can do what you want in terms of triggers and how the dialog will work...
this could also help in the riddle chamber in spell hold....
i mean i always wanted a mechanism to recognize i have potions of super intelligence and am not hesitant to use them beyond their use in memorizing spells for mages and fighting mind flayers...
it just simply makes a lot more sense in rp context...

An excellent idea. I've always thought those potions should have ig use but, lacking one for personal use, I couldn't see how. The trigger could simply be for the selected character to have Int ]19. However, I would suggest that the potion use be separated from the Sola mod, unless you want to do an interjection having him suggest their use in this way in the first place. Still, the actual supplement which implements the potions would seem to belong to Ease or Improved (potions?) rather than being specific to Sola.

not really, if you look carefully in the mod readme, wes has added sola specific interjections for most of the quests in chapter 2, so if a player wants to rush over to the underdark asap to pick up sola, then at their leisure do the chapter 2 quests, sola will say something about most of the quests in the game...
and i seriously suggest that this is romance neutral, he should speak up regardless of the pc being in romance or not...
i mean even if you turn him down when he gets fresh with ya, he is just too contientious and party supportive of a person to withhold potentially valuable advice cause you kicked him out of your sleeping bag...
will post a couple now and do some more later...

Yay Im finished a little long but oh well. Also I need to work on a semi different ending for the male pc. After the 'how is it a custom?' part I think it became a girl only flirt instead of a uni sex one. Also the flirt was mostly designed for a good character ( chaotic good, nuetral, and of course lawful)

Getting there. The big goof comment does sound more like Imoen though.
You can give more than one response from the PC in Sola-initiated flirts, and that's a good idea, because every person is different. I'm not saying you have to try to cover every angle, but it's good to try to have a good response, a negative response or an indifferent response. Look at page 3 of this thread for Sphira's post that shows examples of this. :)

For some of these, like the Lilarcor quest or the circus dijinn, I wouldn't bother putting in an interjection, UU. A lot of players finish these quests before heading to the Underdark.
A lot of them isn't all of them.

PC's replies are soooooooo reasonable and mature! Why our dear PC does not have anger bursts, frightful presence, quarrels and all? We idealise this PC business too much. Let's add more stupid or confused or upset PC replies and let Sola tame her!

While there's nothing wrong with snapping or angry retorts (I have them in Morgan actually), we don't want to go too far either way :)

I've never said snapping should end romance. I'm a long time supporter of the PC being able to throw a tantrum or snap once in a while without it doing so! However, sometimes enough is enough, so once too many can end one, to my mind.
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to make up somehow :)

PC1: Nothing my dearest Solaufein, I was passing curious at the spells you chose to purchase, but that choice is yours.
PC2: I had overheard you inquiring on occasion, about poetry and literature, in addition to the standard spell scrolls.
Solaufein2: Is this a problem my love? I assure you, most have been happy to share poetry for little or no fee.
PC3a:That is a relief, but I'm curious why you would wish to expand your already impressive repetoire?
PC3b:Oh I've no concern about the money, especially if it brings you happiness(page)but I'm curious why you would wish to expand your already impressive repetoire?
Solaufein3:I gather poetry whenever the opportunity presents itself, for an important reason (page) Poetry, I discovered shortly after I acquired my first tome, gives me words and images to express myself so much better than I ever could in simple conversation, in either Drow or Common.
PC4: You have never felt the urge to take up the quill yourself?
Solaufein4: Write my own poetry? I made the attempt once, an unmittigated disaster. The words just didn't come out as poetry, in the end it was more like a list of my feelings at the time, with no rhyme or reason to any of it.(page) It's just another of the fates little japes that I express myself best with the words of others.

I hadn't planned for him to actually be reading while he speaks, but after reading your suggestion:

Today's battles have left their mark on you besides few bruises and couple minor cuts. You make your best effort trying to solve the mess, but you could swear that there is couple of thistle seeds* tangled in your hair that do not actually make you job any easier.)
(After a few moments your scalp hurts, your arms are aching and your comb is stuck in the rebellious mess that your hair is - and still there is very little you have actually accomplished. Just as you are about to give up an ebony hand is placed on your shoulder.

* thistle seeds - I have no idea if this is a correct term. What I was looking for is a word for the sticky seed of thistle if there is a special word for that. In Finnish both the flower and seed are called by the same name. Or can you think some other thing that might tangle into your hair?
Hmmmm... This turned out to be slightly longer than I had intended. Well, maybe you could get rid of the touch part to make it shorter. Or the kiss part to make it shorter and milder.

Hey, I've been lurking around these boards for a bit now. I played the Solaufien mod a couple times. Anyway, I came up with an idea for a flirt...Solaufien initiated. Along the lines of him fishing for a kiss. Well, I'll just write what I had. Use it as you will.
-Solaufien walks beside you silently for sometime. When you stop for a break he speaks to you in his low voice. "MiLady, It is said that 'A women must breathe on you for you to be a man.' Solaufien leans close. "Maybe feeling you soft breathe on my lips shall give me life." He waits for your response.
-You lean in the rest of the way. There is a slight pause as a breathe passes between you lips. Then you gently press your lips to his.
Now this is just an idea. Like I said use it if you wish. I know it isn't gender nuetral..sorry. The quote is something Vincent Van Gogh said. He himself was quoting from the French philosopher Michelet. Just so you know that was not some thing I wrote. Anyway, tinker with it if you wish, it is the flirt crew's now.

You know that wrestling flirt? Mages and some others classes aren't so hot at hand-to-hand combat, so you decided to make it class specific, right? Well, what if for mages and etc. right after a tough battle, (any one where the PC gets close to death, or halfway, or just after a specific toughy) Sola decides the PC needs to learn a thing or two about hand-to-hand combat. It could be a one-time thing, or it could cause a new 'wrestling' flirt to appear with the rest of them. *shrugs* My muse figures we can't leave those poor mages out! ^_^ It'd be a 'learning flirt'. It'd also show he's really starting to care whether you live or die . . . I guess. :P

Like, for instance, after Sola finishes his 'lessons' the wrestling flirt could be added to the rest of the choices. . . :unsure: or perhaps not. Just an idea actually. . . I also have an idea for the second or third one will insinuate something about dancing, which foreshadows Dancers dance flirt (PC initiated). I'll write the others if you guys like this idea, but you won't see 'em if/when I'm done because I think you all deserve a nice surprise! Tsuru will see 'em tho (we send flirts to Tsuru right? Shian, just read the sparring flirt, and I like!! :D Especially as it gives the PC a chance to be stroppy! (Stroppy is good, nothing wrong with a little metaphorical foot - stamping at all!!). It kinda reminded me a little bit of the Drizzt / Cattie-Brie spar from.. uh...(b*gger, can't remember, it was one of the middle ones, hang on whilst I go check...)... I think its Seige of Darkness. I actually think your ideas on this one are a little more realistic than the Drizzt one, so well done you!! :lol:

I know I seem to be everywhere at the moment (yay!! holiday!!), but I do actually have another idea, but I'm unsure of whether it'll be accepted. It's a bit, well, melodramatic, you see. I was feeling a bit fluffy yesterday when I wrote it, and it may just be a little too treacley for you, I don't know. It involves the PC feeling the strain of losing their soul, losing their friends and putting everyone they care about in danger, and how Sola comes and comforts them. Sort of a role reversal (kind of..) 'cos the PC helps him through his moral quandaries, so I thought maybe he could help them?... I don't know. I'm a bit reluctant to post, 'cos at the moment its a bit, well, soppy, and I don't know the stance on general soppiness :( .

Had enough of being soppy. Someone mentioned a tickling flirt a long time ago, so I've come up with this... Umm, I hope it's not too much... I'm not really sure who actually would instigate this, but since Sola seems to be doing most of the work, I've posted it here. Hope thats OK :D

And they've been busy, and come up with another one. But it's an early, sweet one, not a nasty, filthy one like before, and it comes in two parts (which is why it looks, well, long). It needs some tweeking (it's a bit, well, simple at the moment). I'll have to consult my gremlins. (*bats them off the keyboard*- NO! I said no more filth! Leave me be.... <_< )

Sola: I said I had a gift. It’s not the warm bath you wanted, but the fire is hot, and the stones are warm. It is also secluded enough for you to relax. You do not need to worry about any ambush, for I will make sure you are not disturbed. In the phial is a soothing liquid that will ease the worry from your muscles. So please, enjoy and relax. I think you deserve it.

Although what has happened to you and your companions feels inevitable, you wonder how much more suffering you all must face before all this ends.
You then feel a gentle hand on your shoulder. You jump slightly and turn to face a concerned Solaufein.

About the poems; I especially like the sonnet :) . It's comforting, which is what I wanted. It's been a looong time since I studied any poetry, so thanks for that. The first one could even describe how he is feeling, about leaving the Underdark and the trials he's had to face, so that one works too, I think (although I'm with you on the mis-reading thing, like I said before, it's been a long, long time...). I just wanted to show that the main PC has doubts and feelings too - in all the other official romances, the PC has to comfort and be strong for their chosen ones, so why can't it be the other way round? (Oooh, sorry, slight rant there... :rolleyes:).

that kind of dialogue is difficult to write: an LG alignment human paladin will not have the same reaction as a CE half-orc. so watch out.
edit: of course you could leave it to players discretion but that could still be playing with fire. i would like tsu's opinion on this one.

Poetry is difficult to master and I'm certainly not an expert, but I like this one. Very dark and yet somehow hopeful. And compact - it often hardest to crystallise your intent into something precise and all-expressing. I tend to ramble (like now)... ...This did not make any sense did it? You begin to reminisce of a time before all of this happened, before you knew about your bhaal taint, but rather than comforting you, the memories make you feel worse. Although what has happened to you and your companions feels inevitable, you wonder how much more suffering you all must face before all this ends.
You then feel a gentle hand on your shoulder. You jump slightly and turn to face a concerned Solaufein.
Sola: Are you all right, my friend?

I am not sure how this would work. I do remember an earlier discussion of a gift from Sola, but I do not remember that it ever reached any conclusion. I figured this would be an easier way to handle it, but I, admittedly, know nothing of code. What would everyone think of this? It takes whatever ring you have in your ring slot (if both slots are full, it chooses randomly) and transforms it into Sola's gift ring. The abilities, if any, of the ring would be unchanged. Anyway, what do you think?

I don't know about this one :( . It's, well, an argument. It's kind of similar to the one I posted earlier, but, well, angrier (grrr :angry: ). Goes sappy at the end, though (look, I try to avoid sappy, but it's just so hard...) Some may think that a Paladin might not react like this, but what the hey, they're only human(oid) too... See what you think. (It's quite skeletal at the moment, could proabaly do with some more lines. Again, could be considered a girly response, but some lads I know are experts at the girly flounce :P .) I guess I just want to portray the influence of Bhaals blood...it can't be hidden and easy to control all of the time (Thanks to Sillara - I'm not nicking your idea, it just gave my gremlins a huge flash of inspiration!)
Right – argument time!! Hmmm… Would be set quite lately (after declerations of feelings) but before you get your soul back.
After a battle. <Your blood is humming through your veins, and the desire to crush everyone and everything is hard to deny. You struggle with the compulsion to hack at the bodies lying on the ground. You know you are wounded, but you don’t feel any pain, just the urge to fight. As you stand, trying to compose yourself, you feel an arm place itself around your shoulders. In your current state you spin round, ready to strike. At the last minute, you realise that Solaufein is touching you, not an enemy>.
Sola: *smiling* Are you all right, my dear? You fought with such fervour. Not that I’m not impressed…
PC: <Again, you try to calm your thirst for a fight. Normally Solaufeins’ presence calms you, but today his calm countenance only annoys you, only exacerbating your current feelings>.

<Solaufein looks quizzically at you. You can sense he is worried by your response, and a little hurt. He hesitates a little before responding>.

There is not a hell suitable enough for what he has done to you (oooh, clumsy…must improve that…).

Anyway, inspiration comes from many a strange source. I just thought "I know! Hide and Seek!!" (? :huh: ?) and came up with this....
(I’m not actually totally sure how this would start, but here we go…)
<going for a moonlight stroll with Solaufein. Whilst you make small talk (?), you intertwine your fingers with his. He smiles, and tries to kiss you on the cheek. Feeling playful, you duck away, laughing.>
PC: *pulling your hand from his* Catch me if you can!
<you dart off between the trees, trying to be as silent as possible. Looking around you, there is no sign of the stealthy drow, not even the telltale red glow of his eyes. You hide behind a tree, and scan your surroundings, listening intently for any sign of movement. As you peer into the gloom, you feel a hand lightly caress the back of your neck. Your body stiffens and your heart jumps in your chest, but you do not turn around. Not for the first time, you appreciate just how dangerous this drow could be if he wished to. The awareness of this danger only serves to enhance the experience, however. A slender black hand gently travels from your neck, across your shoulders and down your arms, where it slowly travels across your stomach, under your tunic. Your skin prickles and your heart beats even faster as a soft pair of lips slowly kisses the back of your neck. Another arm snakes its way across your shoulders, and you shiver with delight as you feel a warm tongue gently trace the edge of your left ear.
You turn to face Solaufein. He is smiling, and there is a familiar fire in his eyes and a slight flush to his ebon cheeks. You feel a slight pressure on your shoulders, which pushes you back gently against the tree you were hiding behind. The bark feels rough against your skin, and smells of damp earth and leaves. He moves towards you and gently brushes an errant wisp of your hair out of your eyes, (long hair again…I know, I know…) and kisses you softly upon your lips. You close your eyes, ready to surrender your self to him as his mouth moves towards the sensitive spots on your throat once again.
Solaufein: *Murmurs* And so I have caught you, my moon-lit mistress/master….
Okay, so it's playful, and might not suit a CE half-orc ( :blink: that mental picture still REALLY scares me :blink: ), but if his lordship can go out boozing with his friends ( <_< sulk :angry: sulk), I can listen to far too much Type O Negative and write filth. So ner ;) B) .

It is is sort of the idea that Sola is reciting all the poetry, and he might like to be the recipient sometime.
You have managed to have both yourself and Solaufein assigned to wood-gathering duty for the evening, and as soon as you are out of sight of the camp, you make your move, trying all the while to keep the words in your mind.
PC: Solaufein?
Sola: Yes, <CHARNAME>? (His mind is obviously far from flirtation, and his arms are already half-filled with wood.)

Sola: No one has ever recited poetry for me before. Where did you find that? (His voice is gentle, and you realize that his arms are around you.)
PC: I found it in a book at Candlekeep, but I cannot remember any more. I did not know I remembered that much until I saw you silhouetted against the afternoon sky. I wanted--
Sola: You wanted me. (Solaufein smiles sweetly, but there is passionate fire burning in his eyes.) And you shall have me. The firewood will have to wait. (There is just the slightest emphasis on the word fire.)
I do not know how well that would work for a flirt, as there is only the one thread to follow. It might work as a PC-initiated "recite poetry for Sola" kind of thing. What do you think?
By the way, it's some lines of Juliet's. ;) I love that play!
Edit: Should I mention the fact that the PC substitues Sola's name for Romeo's? Or just leave it? Nice that they both have three beats for the iambic penatmeter. :)

I was perusing the flirts that have been written so far, and noticed that although there was a flirt to ask Solaufein to sing, there was never the option to sing for him, instead. You know, teach him a few of the more ordinary surfacer songs, maybe get him to join in. I think it would be fun, and a repeatable flirt, probably. You could have a variety of songs to pick from, depending on the PC's whim, either funny or a folk song, or just a marching song you picked up on the road. Does anyone else like the sound of it? It would work well enough for any level of flirt, I believe.

Oh, yes, it was supposed to be funny. I am glad it made you laugh! Coran sings it to PC (if she allows him to) in one of his early lovetalks (copyrighted :lol: to the BG1NPC mod) to cheer her up after a hard day of adventuring. The romance with Coran is pretty much fun and games in the beginning. PC even gets a chance to get back at him by singing a Lullaby to Namara and (optionally) Coran if PC choses to solve his quest in a good way and Coran gets to carry his daughter around :unsure:
At any rate my point is - it is maybe the best to create the new songs fit in the BG2 setting then try to adapt the existing ones. They are more free-style and do not limit you so much.

Now I am totally aware that druids, rangers, and other nature-type people would argue that they would be good with the cat and wouldn't get scratched....all I can say is 'have you ever owned one?' One of my cats (RIP this September, 20 years old, a legend in his own lifetime mayherestinpeace) loved me dearly, but that didn't stop him from savaging me, my friends, peoples dogs, other cats, the children from the primary school up the road...And my current little boy (I also have a little girl, but shes a Daddys Girl) Akira normally worships the ground I walk on (its pathetic sometimes..) but he still likes to swipe. All small domesticated cats are slightly insane. :lol:

I knew they kept animals for jobs n' stuff (like riding, hunting etc), but not for the sheer joy of owning them. :lol: In that selfless "I've only got £2.50 to last me until the end of the week, but the cats do need food....OK, I'll buy fish so we can both eat". (Although I do wonder why we keep them for the sheer joy of owning them, sometimes...like at 4.30am when they want to play/go out/get under the covers with you/come in/bring you presents of the dead insect kind...). Nothing says 'I love you' more than wearing something totally innappropriate that makes you feel like a complete tit. And chafes horribly. But, he'll know that you're ready for lurve just by listening for chinks and jingling. And by the constant muttering...'For the love of...ouch!! chainmail bikini wax, just what I needed...why couldn't they pad the bloody thing? Oooh! I'm sure that shouldn't be caught in there! It different from many other patterns you might find over the net - probably because it's designed by a female who unlike most men would actually understand how boobs work.

Summer flirt, anywhere in ToB but Saradush. Please, forgive me if the content is too...well you will see. As usual a few options, so the best one could be selected (if such exists)
The sun is high in the sky and the world is full of hot, vibrant light. Under your feet the unknown dry grasses crack and spill the dizzying fragrances in the air. Solaufein picks a stem and smells it wonderingly.
Solaufein: "In the Underdark the essences are luxury...here every blade of grass and the tiniest flower is bathed in it like a Matron Mother during a ceremony. But here the smells are wholesome, not frightening."
PC:
Q1: "I shall show you the sweetest way to enjoy the smells of the summer noon" You catch Solaufein’’s elbow and pull him along, while making a dismissive gesture to the rest of the company.
A1: I have guessed at it, my friend...*Solaufein lowers you on the grass, sits by your side and closes his eyes*
Q1a: You pick up a mint leaf and chew on it - its refreshing smell is strong and attractive. "Kiss me, Solaufein..."

A1c: Are you talking of thick liquid, golden in colour, which by some odd misunderstanding they call honey, not “<CHARNAME>’s lips?”
Q1d: You jump up in a fury: "Solaufein, it’’s DUSTY here!"
A1d: Indeed, it is. Next time I should chose a pond...but then you will complain that it’s wet.
Q1e: I meant to make a wreath of flowers and grasses, but I like your idea better, Solaufein...

It is supposed to be an option for a PC who is irritated by Solaufein too often comparing Underdark and Surface things (he does that in his inital remark as well, telling the PC that the fragrances so common in the surface world are quite rare in the Underdark), that's all it is to it. :D Maybe it is a touch over-complicated for this idea? :)

As usual the 20 page limit per thread will remain IN FORCE after problems experienced in the past.
As mentioned in previous messages these will apply for the main forums only. The moderating team generally don't intervene in individual workrooms unless requested or an event of some gravity draws our attention.
