Post by: Gospel on August 25, 2002, 11:56:17 AM
*spin* I beat the first Kangaxx form! Woohoo! :D

The floating skull guy is buku-crazy though ;_; Chaotic Commands doesn't protect against Imprisonment(Should it? I thought it would from the spell description), so it's usually an automatic loss! :D I do have other party members, but I've seen him cast it like... 6 times on Keldorn(Really weird), then another on Jan, and then on my PC.... that's a lot! Woo! :D

It's cast automatically, too... no "Racey allyah phaero!!!!" stuff :)

I have Additional Tactical Encounters installed, meow ^_^

Thankies everyone! *purrs* :)

Chaotic Commands does not protect from Imprisonment.

Can you give us your party setup (members and levels)?
This will help us to give you the proper help.

Spell Immunity: Abjuration, Spell Trap, or Berserker Rage will protect against Imprisonment.  A Protection from Undead or Protection from Magic scroll will also work.

Also.  Slayer is also immune to Imprisonment.

not quite the level of work or understanding wes and others have, but fun....

Gospel, how can you possibly leave Keldorn there?

Consider replaying it: Go to Rimbald in Promenade, buy a Protection from Magic scroll, and when you are ready to fight Kangaxx cast the scroll on Keldorn and let him face it Kangaxx with some support from Kelsey, who will be throwing Melf's Minutes Meteors.

Have you got Karsomyr? It would help a bit.

leave him there!!!

keldy is such a prissy bugger...with the latest item upgrade mod, which you should have if you plan to run sola, holy avenger is corrupted into the new soul reaver +6...a much better weapon, imho....

thus the reason to keep keldy disappears....

of course, to use it yourself, you have to fail a hell test...

bwbwbwbbwabaaahhahahah!!!! :D  :P

*purrs* I don't have Carsomyr yet, ma'am ^_^

I really don't like Keldorn, actually... one of his Imoen ToB banters made me want to smack him with a stick :( I did, but it was with Flail of the Ages :D

I just needed his Inquisitor abilities, but I'm getting along fine without them ^_^

Beat Improved Mae'Var! Yay! :D

Thankies though :)

You don't like Imoen? *gasp* *sigh* I personally don't think she's a great mage. I typically don't end up with her in my party. But her pesonality is great! Especially compared to Nalia, the cheap imoen knockoff. :-)

Although I'm sure that once Jason is done with her, Nalia will be a worthy party member.

Once, I got super-lucky:
I was around level 9-11 and gave all I got to kill Kangaxx, I was fearing the worst when I would have to fight the demilich, and Minsc hit kangaxx with the mace of disruption before he even turned hostile, and killed him in one shot. (gaxx ring at level 10, on the first try!)

Oh, yes. I know very well that you like her, probably as much as you like Jaheira -- Solaufein's banters with these two just makes it quite obvious. And, admittedly you did a great job with her lines in Sola mod.

Well, this is the first time Imoen has been in my party, because I didn't like her at all in BG I. (Her "I care not" line was really killing me!) Of course she's different now, but still... It has probably to do with her being always soooo cheerful and carefree. I can't stand her "Heya!" attitude.

In my humble opinion, Nalia is better. The only problem is that Bioware didn't make much effort to develop her character as they did in Immy's case, possibly for they thought her being just what you mentioned above: Immy's knockoff.  And it's pitty, because Nalia is a potential much more interesting and better NPC. Now, if she was a higher level thief, too...  :)

Interesting.  What other classes does that pseudo dual-classing method work for?  I'm sure it wouldn't work for thieves "dual-classing" to a class without thieving skills, or for divine spellcasters "dual-classing" to a non-divine-spellcaster class, or for arcane spellcasters "dual-classing" to a non-arcane-spellcaster class, or for a wizard dual-classing to a sorcerer or the other way around...but how about, say, the ranger and paladin kits?  (It might be fun to play an Inquisitor/Sorcerer pseudo-dual or Undead Hunter/Sorcerer pseudo-dual...or perhaps an Archer/Sorcerer...sometime.)

This is a really interesting comment, because Jason Compton wrote pretty much all of the Imoen banter and I don't actually like Jaheira. :-) I like her better than  I like Viconia, Aerie or Anomen. But if I had been even vaguely satisfied with one of the extant romances I would have been less inspired to do Sola.

My favorite "personality-wise" non-mod NPCs are ... Imoen, Valygar,  Mazzy, Keldorn. I'm continually torn about Korgan -- he has a lovely brogue and some excellent intelligent dialogue (check out the number of syllables in some of that), but he usually ruins it by talking about gore or reminding me to do some inane quest or other. :-)

Nalia is a very "realistic" character, but it is my personal opinion that she embodies a kind of "unaware" altruism and lack of wisdom that actually does more harm than good. The fact that she is well-portrayed and "realistic" is depressing more than anything else. I like to aim high in fantasy.

Interesting.  Three out of four of those I can relate to (though considering how different we are, you probably like them for reasons I would find harder to understand the longer you explained them), but what appeals to you about Mazzy?

I'm continually torn about Korgan
Now, Korgan, I find to be a very well-done, serious, and completely vile character.  I hate him--more even than I hate Edwin, because Edwin is a puffed-up joke; Korgan is dangerous.  My perception of him, which no one asked but which I'm going to volunteer anyway because I'm slightly proud of the turn of phrase, is that his philosophy on life is, "Nothing ever happens that is not deserved.  The only true crime, is being vulnerable."

I couldn't know that Jason wrote Imoen's banter, could I? :)
From Solaufein's lines, however, I perceived a somehow possitive attitude towards Imoen and Jaheira, that's why I said you like them. Aparently I'm wrong, but if you hadn't told, I would still believed you liked Jaheira.

Having said my opinion about Imoen, I will agree about the rest three. Keldorn comes first in my preference --it's always him who kills Bodhi. What a terrific guy!-- and Valygar comes second, but actually quite close to dear Keldorn, and not just for his nice hair :D. Mazzy is the sweetest female of the game. She seems balanced and wise to me. And her voice, well, it's really something!

Just one thing about Korgan: Never before had true evil been so hilarious. Absolutely hilarious!

Nalia's character hasn't been worked out properly, and I wouldn't agree that she embobies so much altruism -- thought it definitely appears like that; it's probably humanism in some incoherent and "unfinished" manner rather than anything else, in my humble opinion.

aubrey, buddy, keldy, vaygar, and mazzy are 3 of my most disliked npcs....

immie, who squels so pretty, but i keep telling her its for her own good, got shoved into the bun bun transmogrifier and came out with high level super traps and upgraded thief skills...

i had jan as a assassin mage, but he kept trying to poison and backstab with a turnip...no, jan, it wont work!!!!
but i might try immie as a straight assassin, then dual late into mage...

lets hear it for immie...she isnt as good as jan, but a heck of a lot more fun!!!!

kish,

"(It might be fun to play an Inquisitor/Sorcerer pseudo-dual or Undead Hunter/Sorcerer pseudo-dual...or perhaps an Archer/Sorcerer...sometime.) "

bun bun version 6 HAS all the immunies of a chavalier, and unded hunter, and is immune to timestop, imprison, maze...has perminent g acuity, and spell turning...

i designed her for soloing ascention, and sola on insane...

now i am going to post version 7, basic immunites, but less, but a kensai-cleric conjuror...

and work a little on alsons request, bunny of doom...a bunny familiar that has the same stats as a red dragon, and with demogorgon claws...giggle...

User, my friend, there are two ways to look at it: one is to consider them merely as "characters", you know, like you and me; and the second one is to judge them by their general abilities and what they can offer in a more powerful playing style like yours. I think that's our difference.  I usually play with NPC's whose characters I like. For example, I have never tried Edwin, and I think I never will.

Anyway, it seems they all melt down to personal tastes. Obviously there is not a lot to say about that. I don't mind your disliking of Keldy, and I hope you don't mind I don't very much like Imoen. I wouldn't dare to tell I dislike her. It's not true. I just don't like her veeeery much.   :)
