Title: WeiDU Uninstall Help
Post by: Greg on August 08, 2002, 10:56:11 PM
I have a quick question- someone please help.  The WeiDU pages suggest you can and should uninstall in the same order you install.  I get that.  But what if I want to uninstall everything at once?  I foolishly did a 26498 BG2 ToB official patch re-run, which I think is supposed to turn my BG2 ToB game back into the official release (mod-less).  Then I wanted to install a few WeiDU mods.  But I already had installed some of them before.  So, after running the patch, I cannot uninstall them since they are no longer there, right?  So, I go to install them, and WeiDU thinks that they are already there and attempts to uninstall and replace various WeiDU mods.  Now I'm uncertain what is in the game.  Do have I have to unstall all of BG2 and then install ToB and then run the official patch and start over, or is there a chance my WeiDU install did in fact the right thing?  I'm sorry if this is totally obvious to the experts- there are getting to be so many WeiDU mods that I'm surprised there isn't more data on managing all of them.  Many, many thanks to anyone who can answer this.

Rerunning the patch can have a mix of effects.

Some stuff may or may not be uninstalled.

Anything in the Override directory will still exist (and could very well cause problems), stuff like NPC level progressions or interjection dialog tables yada yada.

Dialog.TLK and DialogF.TLK should be reverted to patch state.

Modules that affect the world map (Tashia at least) have potential for corrupting the world map.

Modules that add music (Tashia + Kelsey off hand) could very well end up doing similiar.

If you want do a clean slate, you typically have to uninstall BG2, and then delete the BGII - SoA directory in \Program Files\Black Isle\ or whever it got installed.

Blucher suggets doing something like Fresh Install - ] ToB -] ToB patches and copying Dialog.TLK (And DialogF.tlk if appropiate), Chitin.Key, BGMain.exe, and your override folder to another directory for backup and if you want to do a 'clean slate' just delete the override folder in your BGII - SoA directory and copy the 'backup' stuff over.

Actually you should uninstall in the reverse order that you installed.  Meaning, if you install Kelsey, then Tashia and then say Solaufein, you'll want to then uninstall Solaufein, Tashia and then Kelsey.  This will eliminate WeiDU from reinstalling mods.

Thank you...  Yes, unfortunately, I had things like Tashia and Kelsey installed when I went ahead and re-ran the patch.  And, yes, I know that
things need to be uninstalled in the same order.  But now I also know
that I might have messed up my game by making the mistake of running
the patch too soon.  I should have uninstalled all WeiDU stuff, and then
ran the official patch.  I very much appreciate the advice.  Thanks!

If the mods run under v42 or later then they force the uninstall order themselves.
