If you are redesigning this side as hinted at in various posts, please leave the light background. Pretty please. I think it is much nicer to navigate than a dark background.

I feel the same way, yeah.  I think it's the main page that's going to get redesigned, not the forums.

Everything else is top notch. All the elements for successful forum squatting are there.  ;D Designwise this is the best of both worlds.

If the forum supports multiple skins, perhaps have the option of light or dark, depending on preference.

SMF does support multiple themes, a whopping two (this one plus a YaBB retro look) would be available in your profile page if it's enabled yet. If not, it'll be enabled when we get to that.

Err umm ::turns red::  Okie well a few of you might remember me from the other forum...  I'm sorry it seems to have ended that way that it has, but that's all I will say on the matter, it's you're guys' buisness and not mine.  When it comes to redesign on the site though, if you need maybe someone to help, I'm pretty good with webdesign and making it pretty for all browsers ::turns even deeper red::  Im just volunteering and I'm uber shy so lol ^_^  I'd be happy to help where needed.
