Title: fantastic mod!
Post by: LRQoD on November 09, 2013, 02:26:35 PM
First thing first: although I'm not a part of any modding community, I have played a lot of infinite engine mods lately. I enjoyed playing your mods and when I noticed this one, I have decided to try it out.

Short review: it's really great!

Long review: It really is great, and here is why:
First of all, it has unique and likable characters. I usually don't enjoy having a party consisting of only good guys, but the NPCs were so charming that roleplaying nice and helpful heroes wasn't painful - it was fun! I especially liked the relationship that was unfolding between Teri and Severn. I don't think I will ever play a male character romancing Teri - I would hate to make Severn sad.
And it's really great that the relationships progressed slowly. It made the bonds between characters more believable.

Voice acting is the best one I have encountered in any fan-made mods so far (and some "professionally made" games as well, for that matter). Really!

It's a bit of a shame that there is not much replay value. It would be great if more characters could be added, or maybe some more flirts, or maybe both? I see that you are continuously improving the mods, so I hope that there will be a reason to revisit this mod in the future :)

Once again, thank you for this mod, you have done a great job and I really enjoyed playing Icewind Dale because of it!

I'm glad you've enjoyed your playthrough! I'm not sure how replayable IWD really is, but I did add a lot of lovetalks and flirts to the latest version, so maybe there's a chance to get more eventually, yes. But I hope it's solid enough as is. :)
And I loved the relationship between Severn and Teri, too.

Hi. I'm recently in a game crysis (oh why i have to wait for DA3 so long! :P), and I realize that I've never played IWD... like ever. I just couldn't pass this impersonal party you're creating. But i started do dig....and there it is! NPC mod for IWD! ;D. So I bought the game, instaled everything and started to play. And hell this mod blown my mind.....literally ;). I don't even know where to start. The character design is just masterpiece. Each end everyone is uniqe in a way and you never get bored with their conversation whether it is between main char or each other. I absorbed every sentence. And the number of dialogs is impressive (they comment almost every situation in a game  :)) Second thing - voice acting. Good Lord those people are talented. Every voice is at place and fit to the character perfectly. Teri is so sweet when she's tired :) and Korin....oh Korin you melted my heart with your "Comand me" line...mmmmm*ehem* where was I?  :) I almost finished main campaign but before kicking ass to final boss I transfer my party to HoW (slashing monsters in Luremaster atm) and so far everything works perfectly fine. It seems that i have all the dialogs so far. (I have original IWD installed not conversion into BG). There is some little things I miss in this mod however (my personal opinion only!!) Some side quests for party members, and conversation witch "main" char and for example hers/his love interest when she/he is drinking sorrows in some tavern ^^. I've always miss that in games and that conversation with Xan after couple mugs/bottles/barrels? :P of ale just burned into my brain (brilliant :)).
So...that's me and my experience with the mod ;) I wish to you Kulyok for desire of making mods never bored you and creativity never left you because we players are like bird's chicks...always hungry  ;D. And I highly recomend you to make some romanceable npc for NWN2. It's been a long time I've played this game *just sayin* ;D. And now if you exuse me I'll go teasing and huging my Korin some more :-* ;)

Thank you, I'm so glad! I wish I could add things like sidequests and tavern talks, too! IWD engine is tricky, though - that's why you're not getting epilogues, only the final conversations/lovetalks in the game's finale. I might figure something about sidequests in the future, though I give no promises - that's a fantastic idea, really. I'm very much in love with voice actors, too - and portraits, of course, I had great portraits!

There's a small flirt mod for NWN2 at Gibberlings3, by the way - try it out during your next playthrough, if you like. I would be happy to create a NWN2 mod, myself(Sand expansion, or Qara romance), but unfortunately the game becomes pure grind around the middle(after the trial) and it's hard to want to replay it.

And I can't recommend SWTOR enough. It's a miracle full of interesting stories and eight new romances for every class! And at least five are good, so I recommend SWTOR a lot(the game is free, by the way, so you could install it and play the beginning, figure out if you want to continue).

Again, thank you very much for your comment! Made my day.

Wow that was quick reply :)Kulyok with your writing skills you should make your own separate mod for NWN2! As for your recomendation to SWOTOR... I have my account since day 1 release ;D and Quinn Malavai drag me to the dark side of the force. What can I say I'm imperial to the bones now :P.

He's my favorite, too - my main is a Sith Warrior. Speaking of which, I should get back to Hoth... :) And cheers to new mods!

I've finished the game and I sustain my impression on the mod (like in title "fantastic mod!"). The game itself without it is just dull. I know it's only a dream but i would like to see the party in BG/BG2 or at least some of them (read Korin ;D Man I love this guy.) and I know I'm not alone in here ;). I know the timing is differend but it's Faerun...filled with some ancient and less ancient magic! If you know what I mean :P. Anyway good luck to you Kulyok in your SWTOR adventures. Hope you didn't freeze on Hoth ^^.

P.S. Korin voice is so.....<3 I recommend to hire his voice actor for future romancable mods :)

Heheheh. I like him, too, though I confess, I like Holvir's voice just as much. (And Severn is our Jason, so, naturally, I adore him).

And thanks! Going strong up to Voss - Corellia next. (Bad, bad Quinn!)

You sure aren't alone! I love Korin as well <3 Although, I prefer Korin staying in IWD setting and not moving on to other game. Would break my PC's heart then! Also, on voice acting.. I loved Korin but I think Holvir was even better! :)

Wait. it's not the infinity engine?

It's a very crappy Infinity Engine. And IWD2 is even "better" - they tried to implement 3E rules, and I can't say I loved the end result. Domi's IWD2 NPC makes it more bearable, though.

First things first, fantastic mod Kulyok, thank you for expanding IWD in such an... exquisite... way!

Initially I was strongly reluctant to use this mod, being used to having each of my 6 characters carefully rolled to the pool of 90+ points and then minmaxed on top of that, so it was hard to accept subperfect characters (Wis 14 cleric huh? Yes, I'm looking at you, Korin). Luckily, I've decided to give it a try and since I started playing with your crew I haven't regretted this decision even once! After all, the chance to play along with some persons having opinions, preferences, affections and all this stuff persons are expected to have is so much better than having few additional spell slots, and now my party have these in abundance :)

Hoorah! :) That's really great. I'm very glad you've enjoyed it.

(And, yep, I'm a fan of minimaxing, too).

Hey just wanted to add that I too really enjoyed this mod, it made IWD substantially more interesting and the characters were very well written, I didn't personally like all of them but even the ones I wasn't so keen on (Terri just wasn't for me) still added colour to an otherwise bland game.

I would also add that the voice acting was superb for a mod and having the occasional first sentence of a banter spoken really added to the characters personality. It provided the setting/tone but still allowed for some readers imagination.

So yeah, great work Kulyok! I look forward to trying more of your mods in the future :)

Thanks! I'm going to take a look at the game as soon as beta/regular official edition is available. Or wait until the guys start installing mods on it, I don't know.

That actually raises an interesting question I'd like to ask Kulyok:

Given the new options being added to IWD:EE (classes, kits and the half-orc race), what - if anything - would you change about Holvir, Korin, Nella, Teri and/or Severn that wouldn't have been possible with the original IWD? :)

Actually those options are already available in the IWDinBG2 edition of this mod... so that's not much AT ALL !
Well, the few added kits by the EE engine (http://playithardcore.com/pihwiki/index.php?title=Baldur%27s_Gate:_Enhanced_Edition_Classes), but that's it.

Hey, welcome to PPG, shawne! No half-orc race, because that would require a new character with a completely different story(shrek-like, probably; and I can't write that well). As for the kits, I think I've included some of the kits for the IWD-in-BG2 option - Cavalier for Holvir, Archer for Korin, sorcerer for Severn(convenience only, he's still a bard) and so on. :)

Or you could go completely off the wall and make a caster Half-Orc. yes, they usually are not, but he has his story to tell, so.

As for the kits, I think I've included some of the kits for the IWD-in-BG2 option - Cavalier for Holvir, Archer for Korin, sorcerer for Severn(convenience only, he's still a bard) and so on. :)
I am pretty sure I took this off from somewhere here, or the ReadMe:
Holvir, paladin; alternate class: cavalier, inquisitor, undead hunter
Korin,  ranger; alternate class: archer, beast master, stalker, multiclass cleric/ranger
Nella,  fighter, possible dual-class - cleric, druid; alternate class: berserker, kensai, wizard slayer, monk, multiclass fighter/cleric, multiclass fighter/druid
Severn, bard; alternate class: blade, jester, skald, mage, sorcerer, wild mage, multiclass fighter/mage
Teri, multiclass fighter/thief; alternate class: thief, assassin, bounty hunter, swashbuckler,   multiclass mage/thief, multiclass fighter/mage/thief .

The only thing I would like you to add is to make it possibility for me to install Nella as a Cleric, and perhaps as a Druid. See, had to do it by hand...

IWDEE is built on an IWD-in-BG2 codebase. It's likely that the IWD-in-BG2 version of IWDNPC will work on IWDEE with very few changes (though I haven't tried it myself and haven't been very involved in IWDEE after providing the original converter to Beamdog).
