Title: Any defense against Creeping Doom?
Post by: WVN777 on February 13, 2013, 07:19:41 PM
Is there any way to defend your party members other than mages from Summon Insects, Insect Plague, and Creeping Doom? Spell Immunity / Conjuration, Spell Turning, and Spell Trap work fine for mages. I suppose Potions of Magic Blocking (which I haven't even seen in SoA) would stop Summon Insects and Insect Plague, but not Creeping Doom. Scrolls of Protection from Magic are far too rare. Death Spell and Death Fog don't slay them, so they're not treated as summons. Fireball and Fire Shield don't affect them.  (I really think Fire Shield should work, based on the AD&D Player's Handbook). Dispel Magic has yet to succeed. Any thoughts?

SCS II (http://www.gibberlings3.net/scsii/) has component Slightly reduce the power of Insect Plague spells (and the like) and let Fire Shields block them (http://www.gibberlings3.net/readmes/readme-scsII.html#content)

Thanks for the information !

I had steered away from SCS II (and TobEx which comes with it) for some time, as it seemed to be perhaps a little more than I wanted to tackle. This advice clinched it though, and I've successfully installed SCS II. Other than having to turn off the Tooltip Scrolls because of the graphics problem, it is running well so far.

We will see how well Fire Shield works out against the next Creeping Doom !
