Title: BG1 question
Post by: womblemaster on October 31, 2011, 12:57:50 PM
AM on my 3rd play through of bg1.  AM playing almost the vanilla game with few mino tweaks.

ie the dorf merchant in the friendly arm inn, and exp barrier removed.

My main char is a fighter/mage/cleric, who is slightly teaked with swrd coast keeper.

she is 11/11/11 now.

Problem is there are no lvl 6 cleric spells in the game.  For some reasoni can access 1 lvl 6mage spell...invis stalker, which is ok, but not amazing.

IS there a way to add lvl 6 and 7 spells.

I have no interest in running BGT or tutu.  I have completed bg2+TOB.

There a way i can add spells on shadow keeper, or are they just no present in the bg1 untwinked game?

I fing it iritating that the only mods around are all hung up about incorporating bg2 rules.   >:(

anyway is there simple way to increase the spells available?

thanks)

BG has no 6th level priest spells so you have to find a mod that adds some. I can think of one but it also makes all sorts of changes to most of the game.

The mod is The Fields of the Dead (http://www.pocketplane.net/fotd).

Tutu and BGT do the same thing in two different ways. I do not think there are any major differences but Tutu is cooler due to the play on words. :)

am tempted to install it.  looks good)

`The AD&D rules have been updated as much as the Infinity Engine allows to add more options to the things that had been simplified as well as to introduce elements that had been left out`

this made me cringe.  I started playing ad&d in 1985.  I dont like the changes iwd2 made.  I am happy with my -12 ac.  makes me feel ubber!    SO am guessing you have changed the ac to go up in value the better armour you get??  /sigh

AM onto chapter 3 in my run through, having done durlags tower first!  (got totsc in the mail few weeks ago)  IF i install fields oft dead, can i keep playing same save games or will it require a restart?

cheers for ur patience!

edit....you have taken lore away from magic users??  cant see the sense in that.   :-[

TotSC Patch 5512

dont have that, i havent installed any (official)patches, and game seems to work fine as is. whenever i look for official patches i can only find dead links. is this really essential?

No, IWD2 is D&D 3rd Edition. FotD is an AD&D 2E P&P mod and this is what the engine is built to support. I could not change it if I wanted to.

You will need to restart.

Lore is unique to bards, as per P&P.

Yes, you do want the patch. And did you actually Google this? I found the patches on the first page of results: http://www.fileplanet.com/40987/0/0/0/1/section/Patches (http://www.fileplanet.com/40987/0/0/0/1/section/Patches). Yes, they are no longer on BioWare's site but they can still be found.

Official BG & BG:ToTSC patches (http://'http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG/index_misc.php')

5512 patch is required at minimum for most mods to work.  Why?  Any files that should have been patched by the patch but were not because it wasn't installed could cause additional errors after a mod has been installed or while a mod is being installed.  This is especially true if the mod relies on files from the 5512 patch having certain data.

Actually this is slightly incorrect.

Tutu/EasyTutu clones your BG2 game and modifies it to play the BG & ToTSC content only, requiring you to import your character or final save into a BG2 only game.
Whereas, BGT modifies your existing BG2 game to allow you to play the BG & ToTSC content straight into BG2 without ever having to change a thing...

-------------- and Echon beat me to the punch about where patches could be found, tho you could also check what I linked as it is a source for other stuff BG related as well

ok i installed the patch. thanks for link.

one other question.....How do i use backstab on a thief?

DO i need to be hidden in shadows to use it?  I seem to recall wheni tried to use it it just drops me from shadows, wihtout doing anything.  Is there particular icon i need to press....ie press thieves skills icon while in shadows?

AM guessing there is no way to dual weild in bg1 ??

You need to be hidden - or invisible - and attack someone from behind. And hit, of course.

BG does not allow you to dualwield.

`You need to be hidden - or invisible - and attack someone from behind. And hit, of course.`

didnt work at first, but after repeated tries, i see you get 4 secs to get the backstab in.  ie while hidden you select the poercing weapon, and make the attack before the hidden fails...between selecting a weapon and becoming visible there is short time period, and you have to backstab during this small window. Maybe they(original coders) think that players with no dexterity should not play thieves!

WOuld be much neater to have extra icon for backstab, or like pickpocket the pointer changes gfx when targeting an npc.

I assume spears can backstab?  However it appears that there are some ihanded weapons with same damage 1-6.

Looks like dager of venom is best backstabber in bg1?  2-6 xmodifier+15.  I assume str bonus is not added to backstab?
