Title: advice on dualclassing please
Post by: Lord of Al on July 12, 2008, 05:11:40 AM
I've always had trouble figuring out when to dualclass my characters, so I tend to avoid it, but I want to dual Nella to druid, what level should i do so? Thanks in advance.

I'd say as early as possible, because without her fighting abilities(before she regains her fighting levels) she is going to be pretty helpless.

For me, the deciding factor on when to dual is how many levels of druid do I want her to have. I don't want to use up too much xp on the secondary class. Besides, while the fighter hitpoints are nice, if you're not planning on keeping her a fighter long enough to get extra attacks, they don't matter that much (imho). And if you do keep her a fighter that long, she's not going to be a very effective druid. Personally, I'm planning on switching her over once the group reaches Kuldahar since it seems to make sense story-wise and I won't need additional cleric magic before then.

On second thought - I checked an old IWD game and saw that my 6-person party had over 2 million experience points near the end of the game, so you can pretty much dual anytime south of 1 million xp and you should be okay.

When I first playtested this mod, I dualled Nella at level 9.  I was playing on core rules and swapping to insane to gather more quest XP.  I ended up reaching level 9 near the end of the first level of the Severed Hand.  By the end of the second level of the Hand, she was a level 11 druid (and a very effective one at that).  She wasn't all that helpless since my protagonist was a cleric who was chunking all the spectral goblins.

In terms of storyline, this was almost the perfect time to dual Nella.  Arundel just died and, in her mourning, decided to take on the role of a druid.
